    Hi again Brian

    This is just a quick note to let you know I've seen your post. I'll take a closer look at the code this evening - I'm in a bit of a rush to get to work at the moment. ;)

    mm,

    Thank you! I really don't mind learning how to do this myself, and I'm willing to contribute code, ideas, testing, money, or whatever you would like me to contribute. However, as I wrote earlier, I'm not experienced with C#... or SourceForge, or SVN (whatever that is). I would like to learn, but I'm getting very frustrated.

    I downloaded the source code for IRSS, but the batch files in the "Build" directory don't work for me because I don't have the correct tools. This is even before I attempt to make any changes to the original source code. I presume this has something to do with a "SVN" or my user privileges on SourceForge (I have never used either SourceForge nor an "SVN" in the past, so I really don't know where to start).

    So... I wrote my own batch file to compile the source... and I get the following error due to missing files that are included via an "include" statement in the source code for IRSS. I've tried to locate these files on SourceForge so I can build the correct directories on my hard drive. However, I can't find the "MediaPortal.Core" directory on SourceForge.

    Here's the error message I'm getting when I try to build IRSS:
    Code:
    "C:\Users\user.name\Downloads\IRSS\IR Server Suite\IR Server Suite\IR Serv
    er Suite.sln" (Rebuild target) (1) ->
    "C:\Users\user.name\Downloads\IRSS\IR Server Suite\IR Server Suite\Applica
    tions\Debug Client\Debug Client.csproj" (Rebuild target) (2) ->
    "C:\Users\user.name\Downloads\IRSS\IR Server Suite\IR Server Suite\Common\
    IrssUtils\IrssUtils.csproj" (default target) (4:2) ->
    (CoreCompile target) ->
      [COLOR="Red"]CSC : error CS2001: Source file 'MediaPortal.Core\Services\Logging\CrashLogge
    rBase.cs' could not be found [C:\Users\user.name\Downloads\IRSS\IR Server
    Suite\IR Server Suite\Common\IrssUtils\IrssUtils.csproj][/COLOR]

    There are other references in the IrssUtils.csproj file to files in the MediaPortal.Core directory, so I assume that the build would get stuck on the next included file if I could get past this first error.

    I really believe that if I could get past these errors and build the program with the existing code, I would be able to figure out where to go from there (with some help from people who are more experienced, such as you).

    I recognize the value in learning how to write programs in C# and also the value in learning how to use these tools (SourceForge, SVN's, etc).

    Is there some software that I need to install on my PC to use a "SVN"???

    Are there some rights that need to be granted to my SourceForge user in order to download/compile this software???

    I would really appreciate any information, guidance, and help that you can provide. I fully appreciate the value in learning how to solve a problem myself... with guidance from those who are more experienced. I truly believe that the best way to learn something new is to be immersed into it... with help from someone who will point me to the information that I need to learn for myself... and someone who will not do everything for me. I don't want to be a helpless baby... but I need a little guidance from someone who is patient enough to give me enough information so that I can find the solution, but stops short of giving me the answer.

    Thanks again for responding to my request! I really appreciate it. I want to make sure you know that I don't intend to be an anchor that holds you down. If I learn enough to write my own code, I will gladly help support the community here.

    Thank you,
    Brian

    Hi again Brian

    Just a few brief comments as I am at work still - don't you love timezones! ;)

    I'm willing to contribute code, ideas, testing, money, or whatever you would like me to contribute...
    We greatly appreciate any contributions! The team doesn't do this for the money but there are costs involved in running the website, forum etc. and buying hardware for devs and testers. Some people put money towards that; others help with testing; some people submit patches or create plugins and skins; others help new people who are struggling; some people just enjoy using the software. All are fine. :)

    I'm not experienced with C#... or SourceForge, or SVN (whatever that is)
    I had never used C# before I started working on MediaPortal, and that was about 9 months ago I guess. It is easy to learn in my opinion. SVN is short for subversion. It is just a system for keeping track of changes to code. You can imagine what it would be like if we didn't have some sort of system for managing code - developers from all over the world (well, mostly Europe...) trying to work on the same code at the same time. Would be madness! So that's where SVN comes in. You can read more about it -->here<--. As for Sourceforge - it is basically just a huge SVN repository (colloquially: dumping ground :D) - it hosts code for thousands of projects...

    However, I can't find the "MediaPortal.Core" directory on SourceForge.
    MediaPortal.Core is part of MediaPortal (hence the name), not part of any plugin. You'll find the MediaPortal source info in our wiki -->here<--. You'll have to deal with that "SVN" thing again :)D). Note that you want the code from the "MediaPortal 1" and "MediaPortal and TV-Server's common libraries, code and plugins" repositories - you can probably safely ignore the rest, at least at this stage.

    I really believe that if I could get past these errors and build the program with the existing code, I would be able to figure out where to go from there (with some help from people who are more experienced, such as you).
    If you can write a batch script then I'm sure you can figure it out too. :)

    Is there some software that I need to install on my PC to use a "SVN"???
    Not any specific software, but *many* people (myself included) use TortoiseSVN (a bit of a tutorial here). It integrates into Windows Explorer really nicely.

    Are there some rights that need to be granted to my SourceForge user in order to download/compile this software???
    No not for downloading - yes for uploading though. You don't even need to sign up to SourceForge if you only want to get the code. The URL (web address) of the repository is really the only thing that you need. Once you have that, you can use a tool like TortoiseSVN to download the code to your computer and start working with it straight away.

    Thanks! You've been very helpful. I found the Wiki about the source code last night after I wrote my last post. I installed TortoiseSVN also. I haven't tried it out yet though... it was getting late and the wife wanted my attention. ;) I'm sure you understand.

    I'll try to find some time to download the source with TortoiseSVN today. I'm sure I'll have more questions soon, but I need to make sure that I can build the program as-is before I proceed to make changes.

    IRSS appears to be a very powerful tool, so I'm excited to get involved.

    I'm trying to check-out MediaPortal1 from the team-mediaportal.com website. I get the following error:
    "REPORT of '/svn/public/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read response body: Secure connection truncated (https://sources.team-mediaportal.com)"

    Any idea what this means? I've tried it twice and got the same error both times.

    Yes, that's the address that I used and got the error I listed. I was able to successfully download it from sourceforge. I also downloaded the Common-MP-TVE3 directory. However, I still don't see the file mentioned in my build error (CrashLoggerBase.cs).

    The source code for MP on SourceForge servers is rarely updated. I would advise against using it.

    OK, so why am I getting an error when I try to download from the team-mediaportal site? TortoiseSVN downloads quite a few files successfully before it gets the error.

    Hmm when I used the address I gave you it went thru checkout just fine. You error "REPORT of '/svn/public/!svn/vcc/default" tells me you are using the wrong address for the SVN checkout.

    But no worries.... give me 5 mins B and I will have u a zip link. Sec...

    I Googled "CrashLoggerBase.cs site:sources.team-mediaportal.com" and found that it actually exists under MP2, not MP1. So, regardless of whether I can get a zip or get T-SVN working correctly, if the files I need aren't there, it won't make any difference.
