Tearing is usually a graphics card/codec problem.

The 7300GT and Nvidia codec should work fine.

Have you got another PCI slot, that you can move your TVcard too, as might be a IRQ conflict.

Also try turning Hardware acceleration off.

If not try either powerDVD or WinDVD's codecs if you have them, to see if there is any improvement.

Thanks for the tips I will try them. However, given that it is a Mediaportal option for "Exclusive use of DirectX" is this not a bug that the TV gets stuck when you try and go to fullscreen mode with this enabled? I hope that it is because it would apparently solve this issue that I am having!

Same problem here. At times, the miniEPG in my tv seems locked (cant get no contact), although the rest of the graphics seems to respond for a while.

I found the following about MCE at http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/buyingguides/WindowsMCE2005part1.php

Another big advantage of MCE2005 is the avoidance of tearing of video frames. One of the disadvantages of HTPCs over consumer video equipment is the lack of synchronization between video frames and video display refresh rates. This is particularly noticeable when displaying high resolution video. MCE2005 uses a customised allocator presenter over VMR9 (Video Mixing Renderer 9, the most advanced renderer in DirectX 9) to avoid visible tearing.

So I am still hoping the guys will solve whatever is causing the freezing when "Exclusive directx" is checked. I also found in the FAQ here: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/Fr...head-4138da6862d8f01565f940f3abdce422d496d64f a suggestion to set the Vsynch (which I assume is the vertical refresh rate) to a multiple of 25 (for PAL) but that didn't really fix it. From my reading ensuring the VSYNCH flag is set in the video card should fix it. THis causes the video card to wait until the monitor responds that it has drawn the previous frame before another is sent but I can't seem to find out to ensure that is the case. The setup has the option under 3D applications and I have set that ON but I don't think it has made much difference. Again I am using a Gigabyte 7300GT I am thinking of trying my Leadtek 6600GT from my other computer. Does anyone know if this might make a difference?

Windowed to fullscreen, is really a problem of DirectX, even highend cards have the problem.
Again the only way around it is be in home screen with nothing running when going from one to the other.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks to the developers for the update. I have had a "slight" improvement in the TV department. When I select "Exclusive use of DirectX" the program no longer hangs but it is just a black screen in full screen mode although the sound continues. I can get back to the My TV screen and the TV is playing fine in there.

So any ideas? And does anyone have an answer to my previous question regarding why the picture only tears in My TV and not My Videos as well?

    Thanks again to the developers!

I am getting exactly the same problem I just get a blank screen with audio continuing when "use direct X is checked" I have three different TV cards in my machine wich all produce the same problem , Compro DVB-T 300, Dvico Fusion Lite and Hauppauge PVR 150 MCE.

If anybody can help with this I would appreciate it because the tearing is driving me nuts.

    Thanks,

    BB

    TV-Full screen mode freezes too

I am a new user of MediaPortal, installed it because of some problems with the TV cards original software. I have a Hauppauge Nova-T usb2 and the original software often refuses to start up and causes an error of the usb-bus, the energy consumption of the usb-device is too high.
Mediaportal recognizes the software with the default options and shows me TV-picture, no energy-problems at all. but as soon as I enter full screen mode the program hangs. Sound goes on but the picture is frozen. I can not go back to the main window but have to shutdown the program.

I have tried the suggestion running without this Directx-connection, but unfortunately it does not help.

Mediaportal is running on my Acer notebook, and Acer did not manage during the last 2 years to provide a new graphics driver for my built-in ATI rage mobility 9700. ATI says that the up-to-date standard driver should not be installed on my notebook as it is not fully compatibal.
I have attached the Mediaportal.log file. May be, anybody here has an idea or can find out what makes the picture freeze in Full screen mode ;) .

    MediaPortal Version: 0.2.1.0
Windows Version: win xp pro sp2
    CPU Type: Pentium M 1.5
    HDD: 60 Gig
    Memory: 512mb

Video Card Driver: ATI drivers V6.14.10.6422 vom 27.1.2004
