    Hi all,
I don't think this is a bug - more likely I did not read the install guide properly and rushed the install.
Having used MediaPortal on my XP supported PC running Windows 7 for a few months, I decided to ditch Windows MediaCentre and re-instll my old version of Windows MCE2005, as my motherboard supports the OS and reinstall MediaPortal.
Having installed MediaPortal once before I did not read the guide properly.
However, the OS is installed and completely updated.
I installed MP11 following a guide from a thread on the forum.
I installed the codecs (I forgot to install some but have mostly corrected that now) I have been unable to register MediaPlayer Classic using the intsructions I found. It says to run the batch file as Admin, but I'm using MCE2005 and right click does not give me the option. Doubleclicking the batch file it complains it cannot find FLVsplitter.ax - the file in the folder is labelled MPCVideoDec.ax (guess that explains it)
So apart from the above, I think the codecs are installed. I have also installed Powerlink DVD software.
Everything seems to be working ok except TV.
I have scanned the channels, set the guide to EPG and it is populated but when I try and play TV I can hear audio, but I do not see a picture. If I try and select a channel when viewing the guide I get 'No Free Card Available' and nothing happens.
I guess this is a codec issue - can someone give me some advice before I try reinstalling and folowing the guide - was hoping to get this set back up quickly for the weekend.
I have a plain copy of XP as well as a MCE edition - should I install the plain XP to avoid the MP11 workaround or is this insignificant (assuming I don't want to use MediaCentre)

    Hi

    I'm using MP 2 I think - the installer was version 1.2.2.2?

I'm at work now so I can't check. But it was the newer version available when I downloaded it.

I think it is better for you to do a re-install. Maybe also use MP 1.2.3. It is the latest stable version.
error.log shows that there was a filter which failed to register.

    Cheers.

Should I reinstall the OS as well or just uninstall and reinstall MediaPortal? In which case should I install XP instead or am I ok with XP MCE2005 and MediaPlayer 11 workaround.

Any advice getting MPCVideoDec.ax registered in MCE2005? Thats the only bit that I did not get installed properly. I just need to register it somehow, if I reinstall I will come up against the same issue, so would like to know what to do to get that registered - rename the file perhaps or use another method to register the filter with windows.

Thanks, I've decided to reinstall with the later version. I think I realise whats wrong now - I didn't configure a codec correctly. I'm trying total mediaportal uninstall and starting again before I re-install the OS.

    Thanks!
Could you report back if it works?

I couldn't get it to work - had fun trying though!

I've reformatted, reinstalled MCE2005 with drivers and service packs and turned off auto updates. (I used
169.21_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql for nVidia graphics card), net frameworks and service packs,
updated directX and IE8 then defragged.

I installed partition, virus and tweakui software. Partitioned my C drive.
Then I installed TV drivers, DivX codec and converter download. FFDshow, I deselected all video codec
selections except Divx and Xvid. I left the audio selections. Next for 2 speaker mixer option and next for default
    values.

Stand alone filters and PowerDVD. I have not installed MediaPortal.

I started Mediacentre to configure it and make sure everything is working and I got error -

'Strong name validation failed for assembly 'C:\Windows\ehome\eshell.exe' The file may have been tampered
with or it was partially signed or not fully signed with the correct private key.

My mediacentre has broken before I even started it!

I traced it to a windows bug -

'sn.exe meant for 32-bit OS runs without error on 64-bit OS and incorrectly shows message indicating success'
Not sure what to do next.

I've got a media PC in my lounge which I originally bought Windows XP MCE 2005 and then Windows 7 but
the motherboard is only XP compliant. I have been running Windows7 with out to much of a problem but
decided to go back to XP MCE2005 and use mediaportal, then install my Windows 7 copy on my other PC
which is running XP but has a motherboard that is Windows7 compatible.
But if MCE2005 breaks due to a bug when installing it.....

    Thanks microsoft.

I went to microsoft updates and installed all the updates.
    Still get the error.
I uninstalled SP3 as this is part of the Microsoft fix.
Still get the error.[DOUBLEPOST=1342964761][/DOUBLEPOST]After un-installing SP3 windows update site does not work and when I open IE8 to Google, I cannot enter the cursor in the search box to searh for anything leaving IE8 unusable.

Microsoft, you really are crap.[DOUBLEPOST=1342965724][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm also getting 'Media Centre receiver service encountered a problem and needs to close' I send error reports but get no info back to solve.

I've un-installed IE8 and I can now type in search terms but windows update still fails trying to analyze and get me a list of downloads.
