hi,
in order to have a correct zoom and aspect ratio i changed the decoder for tv:
with mpv the preview screen (that small one on the right) in myTV worked fine, with no other decoder this works.
i tested all on my pc (cyberlink powerdvd, intervideo windvd, dscaler,...), but none of them works properly (with dscaler i can't timeshift and so on)
the best picture (and no other issues) i have with powerdvd decoder. but same here the preview flickers and it's most of the time black - no problems with fullscreen.
i searched the forum, but i didn't find something that fits...

does anyone know how to fix this?

unfortunately, no...
but i have to stay with that because of the german tv stations sending in the letterbox format... (so i can't use mpv (which works) when i want to zoom the picture as usual)

Hi!

I'm not at my HTPC right now but if I remember correctly I had this issue a while ago. I played around with the settings for the TV-plugin, such as Deinterlacing etc. I think I turned off the HW acceleration (which I don't use anyway). Give it a go and reply to this forum. If you have no success I will check the settings when I get back home later this week.

Hi,

That might do the trick. I had problems with vista mediacenter and playing mpeg2 with earlier versions of AMD/ATI drivers. Playback was ok when I turned off HW acceleration. I'll turn off HW acceleration later today and see what happends.

Hi Breezec,

I'm now in front of my HTPC and the problem was indeed the HW acceleration. When I use CyberLink PDVD as video codec and had HW acceleration selected in the DirectX section I got the flickering. As soon as I turned it off the picture was stable again.

Any luck on your side?

Hi,

I can confirm this. Playback with nvidia codec is fine when HW acceleration is off. I think it must be a bug in the Catalyst driver. We just have to wait and see if AMD fix this problem. They had a similar problem with mpeg2 decoding in Vista on this chipset some months ago.

i stopped flickering with enhanced video option activation in directshow filter menu
now it doesnt flicker any more (h.w. acc. still enabled)

Same problem (ATI x1250, Catalyst 7.11). My experience:

1. HW-acceleration on + VMR9 exclusive mode: flicker/black preview but superb fullscreen picture, no tearing
2. HW-acceleration off + VMR9 exclusive mode: preview screen working but no benefit from HW-acc (worse fullscreen picture with high CPU load)
3. HW-acceleration on + EVR (it deactivates VMR): everything fine but a little bit of tearing!
4. GFX refresh rate (50 or 60 Hz) does not have impact on this preview picture problem

I want to use HW-acceleration (it is really superior to software decoding, picture quality 3x better, even against finetuned prostprocessing!, just read the tests!), have no tearing and functioning preview... Remains a dream for me.

Hi Kszabo,

I am actually using HW-acceleration again, now with an Nvidia card instead of the integrated graphics x1250. No flickering. May have something to do with graphics HW and the use of acceleration then.

Now I have the benefit of HW-acc and a good preview.
