Hi folks,

Can someone explain how the power scheduler works within tv server, as I'm having difficulties in getting my machine set up how I want it?

The problem I'm facing is I want the machine to hibernate after a recording or when it is left on, but I would also like to be able to browse the net and can't seem to get the right settings for me to do so.

I enabled power scheduler to hibernate after 3 mins, which it did. But I was currently in the middle of browsing the net, which I didn't particularly want it to do.

So I decided to disable power scheduler and use the power settings in vista to hibernate, but it did not seem to hibernate on it's own, would this be because the tv server was running a process?

Can anyone help with this issue?

Thanks

Power Scheduler doesn't take network activity into account, however it should take mouse and keyboard activity into account. So if you use the mouse or the keyboard Power Scheduler shouldn't hibernate your system. But if Power Scheduler doesn't detect any activity during the the set time frame, it will of course hibernate the system.

A tip is to activate extended logging for Power Scheduler and check tv.log.

Power Scheduler is not based on user/mouse activity but on a selected list of active processes.

You can configure the processes that prevent the Power Scheduler from entering standby/hibernation
    in the processes tab:

    PowerScheduler

So if you want to surf the web without the pc entering standby/hibernation
just click "select process" and select your bowser process (e.g. firefox.exe).

Thanks for the responses, I will look into that.

I did a system restore to just after I installed windows, and set the power settings in vista to hibernate after 3 mins.
I re-installed mediaportal, but this time I didn't enable the power scheduler.

But I may have to rethink the shutdown and wakeup settings, as it doesn't wakeup from hibernate to record scheduled programmes.

I created a new post about this https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/machine-not-coming-out-hibernate-record-programmes-45244/

But I have now browsed the forum, and reading up on power scheduler I need to enable it to allow it to wakeup.

:sorry: I should have searched the forum first.

So, am I right in saying if I add the firefox executable to the list, as long as firefox is open it won't hibernate?

    yep, that's right

If I'm not completely wrong Power Scheduler should take mouse and keyboard activity into account as well and not initate a standby if user input is detected.

my personal experience is that mouse activity is not taken into account,
will ask a developer whether or not this is implemented

I'm pretty sure that this have been working for me, at least in Windows XP.

Currently I'm not using Power Scheduler to send my computer into standby due to the fact that Power Scheduler doesn't take network activity into account. That is, Power Scheduler will happily send the computer into standby even if clients are accessing shares or FTP. Howerver, I use Power Sceduler to wake up the computer.

What do you use instead? I've the same problem with clients who are accessing shares or scrolling through the movie list in MP.
