XP keyboard\mouse input detections works, Vista forget about it, as soon as you close a process that may be stopping standby, it initiates standby straight away.

What do you use instead? I've the same problem with clients who are accessing shares or scrolling through the movie list in MP.

I'm using a little application called TOff, can be found here:
    Downloads - TOff

Note that the "Send into stand-by mode" in TOff causes a forced standby, this will cause problems with the TV Server due to the fact that the TV server is forced to shutdown directly. The Hibernate Computer Soft works.

I have also used "IdleShutDown.exe" which I found here on the forum, somewhere.....

It would be really nice to have Power Scheduler to take network activity into account, maybe a developer reads this...

I've now produces a powerscheduler.dll where you can configure network share monitoring - it is an old not included patch from sourceforge - which i've modified for the actual SVN give it a try.

I must be missing something completely obvious...

I tried for 2 days to get my new machine to go into sleep state without luck..

Selecting it in the Client noting happens..
Configuring it in the tvserver & Client noting happens...

Tried the combination that can be found online.. No luck..
Tried to use TVGG to be run with the EPG configuration also no luck.. That might however be part of the problem of not running it as an admin user...

But if anybody can point me in a step by step guide ob how it should be configured fool-proof (Yes I’m a fool) please let me know..

    Current setup
    Gigabyte 780G, Vista SP1

This is a step in the right direction, but I would prefer an option to monitor network traffic in general.

I would also prefer such an option - but i'm not a C developer - and i'm only familiar with copy and paste coding in C :-( sorry for that.

My problem is not the programming, I'm programming C in embedded systems. But .NET and C# is something I'm not familiar with, perhaps that will change...

Mhm but i think knowledge in C should be enough for that. I'll send you the patch for the share monitoring. It's really easy to read and i think with a little C knowledge it should be possible to adapt this to a trafficmonitoringfunction.

Patch send to you via PM.

I am having the same problem with Win Vista. My vista power scheme is max performance with hdds to power down after 5 mins of inactivity. None of the power scheduler options make a difference. Manually initialing standby/hibernation works but power scheduler doesnt do anything. Any ideas? Using MP1RC2 with fresh vista install.

For any others this may help.

I did manage to sort out my problem, but did find a funny issue along the way.

I have turned off the settings in the vista power settings, to go into standby. And I'm now just using the power scheduler.

I have my tv server power scheduler set up to go into hibernate after 3 mins, and also set it to wake up. I didn't use the forced shutdown but enabled extensive logging, and set the pre-wakeup time to 300. I also enabled reinitialize service. The last thing was to add the firefox.exe to the processes list.

I also used these settings for the client as well.

The two issues I did come across were:

    • If I didn't enable the scheduler to go into hibernate, and had the vista power settings still defined then it would not power up the machine.
    • Mediaportal would hibernate even if I was watching a recorded programme (I think this was because I didn't have the client plugin enabled).

So, I think if you have enabled the power scheduler then make sure that you remove the values you define for the vista power settings. As I couldn't get mine to come back on to record unless there were no vista power settings defined.
