Last night I decided to install the TV Server Engine, and followed the online video instructions (even though different for the xp installation) - everything is setup, tv channels located, but have an issue with recording.

I've set the engine to record in mpeg2 format (easier to transfer to dvd). I set media-portal to record Heroes and closed down the client - I checked the engine configuration and this said it was recording, so off to bed I went.

Got up this morning and checked the recording, but it seems to not have worked.

A folder has been created with the title of the program I was recording, and inside this is 2 files. An mpg file of 0 bytes, and an xml file containing the description of the program from the epg.

Inside the recording folder it has 4 ts files, that match to around the time the recording started and stopped, but there is no dvr-ms to play the recording, nor am i able to play the mpg file.

The svn I had downloaded was 16420 (as the latest one wasn't available)

I haven't managed to attach any logs as of yet (due to having to go to work), and probably won't be able to get them until Sunday (as away), but if get a chance will save off logs and post up if near a internet connection

forgot to add this is process went through

installed sql2005, then the manager for it
installed tv engine
installed media-portal
installed mp client

regards

Use TS at the moment, i do not know why mpeg is broken, as infinityloop has it working.

Cannot get it to work from a clean installation, so what's missing\incorrect on our system that is stopping this from recording correctly.

Have had various effects produced, the common ones are either, NO file, or sound only mpeg file (recording 1 hour show produced 48Mb file).

Will do a recording now and post logs.

Have had this working previously 3 months ago, but changed to ts format for various reason's.

    thanks PD

not sure - even re-installed the latest hauppauge drivers and the recording from their software works a treat

do you know of the best software to convert ts to mpeg - have heard of dvdsanta but will that cause any issues

probably will be doing a full clean re-install of my media box as tried various programs, but not sure if to disable automatic updates, and not install any av software, but i do update film information, etc from the net, and use it for help when diagnosing problems while sat in front of the box

do you know of the best software to convert ts to mpeg

I use TMPGenc xpress 4 for encoding anything, works flawlessly, maybe not the fastest but it takes anything i throw at it.

Yep tried reinstalling everything including Hauppauge software, no difference on the mpeg recording front.

Using TVE3 16422, no mpeg recording possible (Top Cat :) ) recorded 1200 to 1230 today, 0 byte file produced.
