I want to be able to use the htpc like a normal recorder & view/record an external input/ channel from my tuner card that is either CVBS or SVHS or RGB or YRYBY. Something like pay-tv or a VCR for example.

What ive done so far: in Tv Server config>TV Channels>Channels tab, created a new channel called "Component". After selecting the new channel I select the 'Analog' tab, made the channel # = 2, Input type = Antenna, Country= Australia, Under 'Crossbar Parameters' I selected YRYBY#1 & Audio= Automatic.

When I am back in the Tv Server config>Tv Channels>Channels tab & highlight "Component" then select preview, a box appears & says "Preview Failed:Unknown Error".

In the Tv Channels>Tv Mapping, in the drop down box I selected the 'Analog' tuner & mapped "Component". By this time I created 2 more & mapped them, called SVIDEO & Composite.

Did I do it right or miss anything... or is it totally wrong?

Has anyone tried this before.. any ideas?

Attached are my logs, these 2 to me seem to be the most important, if u need any more let me know! :) ... It could be related??.. what i noticed was when I go into tune/search for analog stations the 'Tv Server Config' crashes/exits. Tuning in DTV stations it all works ok, no crashing.

p.s. my VCR/DVD Rec has not got RF out so I need to map the inputs of the tuner card somehow

Please help ... .. .

Bump! :)

Ive read around that other ppl are able to do this successfully.. so it makes me think that my Leadtek tuner card isnt compatible :-( or its just i havent configured it right. Ive updated the driver to the latest (6.0.1012.49) but unfortunately has the same error. . . . . . . DOHHH!

Anyone had success in getting these kinda inputs mapped? If u have let us know how ya got it goin! :)

Hi,

Don't worry, I have the same card and it works fine with mediaportal.
I had the same problem at the beginning, it was impossible to add manually CVBS/SVHS/RGB/YRYBY = "Preview Failed:Unknown Error".
To fix the problem i created a CVBS/SVHS/RGB/YRYBY channel with the button " add CVBS/SVHS/RGB/YRYBY ".
Parameters are Input type = cable, Country= The netherland , Under 'Crossbar Parameters' I selected CVBS#1 & Audio= Automatic. I kept these parameters for all channel.
Don't forget to create a Hybrid group (see wiki) and to mapped channel on the analog card (not DVB).

Thanks for the heads up cthibs...:D is this the wiki you meant? >> TV-Server/Configuration/TVServers/HybridCards - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

There was one important thing I didnt do which was create a hybrid group (thanx cthibs!), Seeing that . . . I created one called DTV (for the digital tuner) & ATV (for the Analog tuner). I then created a channel called 'CVBS' to test this out, Channel#: 1, Input: Cable, Country: Australia, Crossbar: CVBS#1 & Auto for audio. What channel Number(s) did you use? Is this important for mapping external inputs?

From there i selected 'Tv Mapping' & selected the Analog card in the drop down box & then clicked ">>" to map it. After that i thought THIS IS IT!! ... but the error popped up again after pressing 'preview' ..... Do u think it has to do with the channel No?

I reckon there's gotta be somethin so little im not doin

Yes, it is. But for our TV card, you must to create only one group with both tuner. Like this TVServer can not use both tuner in the same time.

Channel number is used to zap to different channel, if you press "1" on your remote, mediaportal go to channel "1".
Now you have two choices :
1) you configure only one channel with name "STB" and you change channel with the STB remote. With this solution you can not have TV program with mediaportal.
2) you configure all channels you want to watch, with TV channels names. With this solution you need an IR Transmitter to control your STB .

You are right concerning mapping.

ok cool... ive done as you said & as far as i can see MP still has a problemo with my card... after pressing preview a couple of times I thought of opening up the logs directory, i opened error.txt.. this bit seems to be repeated in the log each time ive pressed 'preview' :

[17]: analog: unable to find WST Codec or VBI Codec filter

2009-06-25 21:46:51.093750 [18]: Exception :confused:ystem.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at TvLibrary.Implementations.Analog.TvCardAnalog.Dispose()
at TvLibrary.Implementations.Analog.TvCardAnalog.BuildGraph()
at TvLibrary.Implementations.Analog.TvCardAnalog.Tune(Int32 subChannelId, IChannel channel)
at TvLibrary.Implementations.Hybrid.HybridCardGroup.Tune(Int32 subChannelId, IChannel channel)
at TvLibrary.Implementations.Hybrid.HybridCard.Tune(Int32 subChannelId, IChannel channel)
at TvService.CardTuner.Tune(User& user, IChannel channel, Int32 idChannel)

Whattaya reckon bout this part "NullReferenceException......" ? Am I also missing a codec? mmmm.. how could I check for this?

ive also opened up 'tv.txt' & at the time of pressing 'preview' i get this in the log:

- it seems to me like its all working great up until this line:

analog: No stored or invalid graph for Teletext component - Trying to detect

Any ideas about the invalid graph for Teletext component, the NullReferenceException & the codecs?

Sorry but I'm not a TVServer log specialist...
There is one thing I did before my Tuner card works, but I didn't think it was the solution but you can try :
in the TVserver configuration, i did a "scan for tv channel" for the analog card, without antenna, so no channels have been found but after "preview" can works...

Another thing I see in your log, "tuner" field seems to be configured as "antenna" and not as "cable" ...

That's cool dude! Im just glad you've been able to help :)

Seemed like a good idea so I did what you suggested, went into the Analog Tuner section in the Tv Server Config & clicked on 'Scan for Tv Channels'... & b4 it could start to scan the Tv Server Config exited/closed on its own..... i'm like .. "What the ??"

Cthibs... your card's working hey ... what windows driver version have you got installed? Cause u've got the same tuner card im wondering if we can compare a few things to c if there's somethin' on my system that im missing?

I noticed in 'my computer' properties>Hardware>Device Manager, that the Leadtek tuner card isnt explicitly listed as an installed card but under 'sound' Winfast is, i wonder if this is normal for this card?? Is your tuner card listed like this too?

Oh yeah.. sorry for the confusion.. i tried using 'Cable' but it wasnt successful so i tried using the Antenna option.
