Hi,

I have this problem where mediaportal stops playing the TV channel I am watching and reports that it has lost contact with the Tuner card. When I restart the computer it comes back and works again. I have been log diving and have found the following from the error.log
2009-02-14 17:38:02.187500 [TVService]: Exception :Error: DatabaseUnavailableUnclassified
Gentle.Common.GentleException: The database backend (provider SQLServer) could not be reached.
Check the connection string: Password=redacted;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=MpTvDb;Data Source=htpc\SQLEXPRESS;Connection Timeout=300; ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database "MpTvDb" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'sa'.

but this only appears to be a startup issue. Immediately before this I get:
2009-02-14 17:29:09.015625 [Scheduler timer]: card: unable to connect to slave controller at:htpc
2009-02-14 17:29:09.031250 [Scheduler timer]: card: unable to connect to slave controller at:htpc

and at the same timestamp in the TV.log I get this:

This is a pretty fresh installation, only a week old. The login failure is a phurphy because I have confirmed the password with this command:
osql -U sa -S htpc\SQLEXPRESSosql -U sa -S htpc\SQLEXPRESS
Which allows me to login as expected with the password in the SQL connection string.

Can anyone help with this? If I can't get the machine reliable I will have to go back to Windows XP MCE.

It just happened again. This time it seemed to co-incide with it trying to change channels to record a scheduled show (I only have 1 tuner).

network problem

I have noticed that this might be related to my wireless network dropping out. It seems to correlate. Is it possible to configure the TV server not to access itself over the network or force it to you the loopback address to connect to iteself?
