    To fix this either:
    • change the PC name or IP address back to what TV Server expects it to be (sorry, I'm not able to tell you what it should be... but maybe 192.168.0.2???)
    • use MySQL Workbench or similar to modify the TV Server database Servers table and change the hostname/IP address that TV Server expects to run on to your current hostname/IP address (ie. user-PC or 192.168.0.3
I note that for best reliability and stability we recommend people set up the PC that TV Server runs on with a static IP address.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. :)

    Regards,
    mm

    Great thanks mm,

I have actually been been trying to fix the ip address of host i think this has caused the problem...originally it was 192.168.0.17.

I have downloaded Mysql workbench but not sure how to use it.
I am trying to access 'root' but it asks for a password, is their a default?
    i've never set one.
Thanks Steve[DOUBLEPOST=1411389019][/DOUBLEPOST]Ok got password, and Workbench is up and running....just not sure how to use it....

    Cheers

    Steve

    Hi again Steve

Yeah, the default root password for a MySQL database installed by MediaPortal is MediaPortal. Note that password is case-sensitive; the capital letters matter.

Once you make it into the database editor (the option on the left on the Workbench home screen) you can run the following SQL command to fix the problem:
    UPDATE Server SET hostName = '192.168.0.3' WHERE idServer = 1;

After doing that I hope you'll be able to start TV Server successfully.

    OK mm,

At the risk of annoying you, i have to admit i am am basic pc user, but have been successfully running MediaPortal for years and know a reasonable amount but this is a bit over my head....so
    I have Workbench running,
Homepage shows MYSQL Connections on the left and when i click im asked for the password (MediaPortal)... then i am faced with what looks like an editing pane....the master tab at the top reads"Local instance MySQL" with a query 1 tab, a sql file 1 tab and an sql File 2 tab below in the editing pane.
Where do i write the command?
    And to be clear the command would be UPDATE Server SET user-pc ='192.168.0.12' WHERE idServer = 1;

    Sorry!!!

    No need to apologise. :)

    So you open Workbench.
You go into the section on the left and enter your password.
You now see the editor in front of you.
You copy + paste the command into the editor, then click the lightning bolt icon above the editor to run the command (or press ctrl + enter).
Finally, your command is wrong. You should not replace "hostName" with "user-pc". If you do that the command simply won't work. "hostName" is the name of a column in the Server table; it is not meant to be replaced with the name of your PC.

    Thaanks again

So i did what you said and pasted the command replacing the ip address with that of the pc running the server and hit the lightning bolt and i got a green tick below so i guess that went to plan. Then i exoted and re booted.
Still no connection to the tv server....getting the same fail message when i try and start TVConfig....
i will come back to this tomorrow as it is late, i hope we can figure this out thanks mm
I think i was setting up MPExtended when the problem originally occurred, trying to set up ampdroid.
    Cheers

Yep, the green tick means it ran. You should see a message something like "1 row updated". If the message is "0 rows updated" then we've made a mistake there.
Assuming the update worked, the only reason I can think of for the server connection to fail would be that the IP address has changed yet again after the reboot. It would be helpful to post the latest TVService.log file (other log files not required in this case).

I'll be back tomorrow. Rest well. :)
