I am testing MP1 with Win 10 on my desktop PC prior to upgrading my HTPC (currently Win 7) but have run into a problem that following an overnight shutdown and reboot the TV Server is not starting. If I run the TV-Server configuration it comes up with the database config. screen and when I click on Test it comes back with "Connection failed! Unable to connect to any of the specified SQL hosts". The only way I have found to resolve the problem is to either restore windows to a time when TV was working or re-install MP1.
    Help please.

    Hello

following an overnight shutdown and reboot the TV Server is not starting.
How are you determining that the TV Server is not starting?
I ask this question because I can't see any sign of such an issue. The TV service seems to be running fine. For example, on the morning of 15 October:
    "15.10.2015 08:00:13";"TV Server";"(0)";"Information";"Service started successfully.";"0"

If I run the TV-Server configuration it comes up with the database config. screen and when I click on Test it comes back with "Connection failed! Unable to connect to any of the specified SQL hosts".
Yes, I can see this. At the same time as those connection failures are happening, it appears like the TV service is running fine in the background. In other words, this problem appears to be isolated to TV Server Configuration.

I wonder whether you run security software that is blocking TV Server Configuration from connecting to MySQL etc. (which requires a TCP connection)?

    Regards,
    mm

It was working on the morning of the 15th! Yesterday and today when I attempt to start MP it spends a long time with the message "Waiting for startup of TV Service" and when it does eventually start and I select TV I get a screen asking for the IP address of the host, with the current setting correctly stating the name of the PC.

I am running AV software but have no indication that it is blocking anything and disabling/exiting it makes no difference, Windows Firewall is enabled. Yesterday evening following a shutdown earlier it worked OK without me troubleshooting or doing anything specific to MP, but it again fails this morning.

So why didn't you say that in your first post! ;)

I think this is something to do with it...

    Working:
    [2015-10-15 07:59:49,834] [Log ] [TVService] [INFO ] - Controller: local ip address:192.168.178.30
[2015-10-15 07:59:49,896] [Log ] [TVService] [INFO ] - Controller: server running on Bleys

    Not working???
    [2015-10-14 17:38:51,340] [Log ] [TVService] [INFO ] - Controller: local ip address:192.168.178.30
    [2015-10-14 17:38:51,340] [Log ] [TVService] [INFO ] - Controller: local ip address:192.168.178.21
[2015-10-14 17:38:51,403] [Log ] [TVService] [INFO ] - Controller: server running on Bleys

Since all your configuration is using the hostname ("Bleys"), when you have 2 NICs the DNS lookup (ie. conversion from "Bleys" to IP address) is ambiguous.

Possibly although I think it was working on the 14th as well! Sorry  but I reinstalled on the 14th, it was OK on the 15th and the first failure was on the morning of the 16th. Following a shutdown and short power off this morning it is now working again with both NICs in operation. When it fails again I will disconnect the Wifi (USB) NIC and retry or can you suggest something else, a different set up to handle both NICs maybe?

Okay, Windows system event log for the startup on the 16th has many errors, including:
"16.10.2015 09:46:16";"Service Control Manager";"(0)";"Error";"The MySQL service failed to start due to the following error: %%5";"3221232472"
    ...
"16.10.2015 09:46:16";"Service Control Manager";"(0)";"Error";"The TVService service depends on the MySQL service which failed to start because of the following error: %%5";"3221232473"

Currently I'm not able to determine what the underlying cause of this is, but it seems likely to be a network or storage driver or hardware issue.

I took a look at the event logs for today also and it looks like I'm getting a bunch of various errors every startup. This was an upgrade install of Win 10 and I am tempted to try a clean install what do you think?

Latest:- The problem can be toggled on and off with a shutdown and leave it alone for a couple of minutes before rebooting (mains power still connected) but a restart does not have this effect. I have deinstalled (software and hardware) the second NIC and rebooted but the problem persists.

    what do you think?
I'm the wrong person to answer this, because I run XP.

Given that answer and there is a lot of work will be involved in getting everything up and running following a clean install, I hope you won't mind me asking if anyone can confirm that this problem is NOT generic in Win 10 x64. So:-

Please let me know if you are running a sigle-seat MP1 on Win 10 x64 and the TV working OK?

Note that in W8 and newer, shutdown does not actually seem to shutdown; it seems to be some kind of power saving mode. Reboot does a proper power cycle. Perhaps your hardware has problems with the power saving mode?

[edit: Windows refers to this fancy shutdown as "fast startup" in the Control Panel power settings.]
