TV Show Support? Music DVDs? (1 Viewer)

I added the disks last night. It actually found all the TV series with a bit of help and downloaded the info of the series as a whole ie cast, series synopsis. This may be a bug for you, but is a feature for me . I then manually changed the names of my eg 10 or so "The Office" entries to - The Office Season1 Disk2 or whatever. Works very well, I will need to manually add the episode details for each disk at some point and find the covers and make some fan art but it is a big improvement over just using my videos. Thanks for your help.

Yes, many TV Series are available on IMDB, so it's completely doable. Come to think about it, if having your series ripped like this (disc1, disc2, etc), Moving Pictures is probably easier to use than TV-Series.

Moving pictures is ideal fro what I want. I am going to add some fanart and covers I got off TVdb and I am all set. If multiple disk images for a single "movie" and folder hierarchies are added in future updates to the plugin I will be completely set, but what I have at the moment is awesome and a massive step-up from my previous set-up.

So as far as I am aware the updated 0.6 version of moving pictures has fixed the "bug" I was using to import TV series data. Is there a way to manually alter the script so as to retain the TV series as an option for the match?

Unsupported fix:

Get the latest IMDB.xml script from this thread. Before you add it to the data provider system like described in the linked post you need to edit it. Look for the expression called: rx_search_results and remove the specified text(see code below) from it.

I have seen a few times around here people mentioning issues with loading a TV Series into Moving Pictures, or maybe a Music DVD. I think it's great that people are finding new uses for the plug-in and are able to use it in areas outside our originally intended scope.

Actually i had the same in mind a few days ago.

If TV-Series and Moving Pictures would merge together, then you would literally make MyVideos sort of "useless".

As I have said before (many times, I think, but I hope you guys don't get tired of it ), I hope that doesn't happen. I like having direct acces to both my movies and my TV-series, directly from the Home menu.
Also, it seems that the general development of MP goes towards more plugins, that are more specialised. This makes it possible for people to tailor their systems specifically for their needs - a trend that I think is a very good thing.
I already think that, for a rookie, opening the TV-series configuration and setting it up, might be somewhat of a big task - especially if you want something configured. Add all the configuration options af Moving Pictures, and you got a big mess.

Also, the only thing we would get out of a merge, is a plugin called "TV-series and Movies", which starts out with letting you choose whether you want to watch a TV-serie or a Movie. After you make this choice, you basically have the same plugins as now.
If people who want the merge wants to make one long list, mixing movies with tv-series, I sincerely hope that this will never happen.
The only time that I think there would be a use for this, is when a movie has a TV-series spin-off or the other way around (like Firefly/Serenity). In this case it could be cool to have some sort of link from the movie/TV-serie to the TV-serie/Movie, but perhaps in time (if both plugins starts using the same SQL-server as MP TVserver does now) there could be made some cross-reference between the two databases.

I am all for the two development teams working together on finding the best solution for a given problem that relates to both plugins, but a complete merge is something that I am very much against.

So I hope MP will still have a videos plugin where I can put other stuff in, like Stand-up-Shows, trailers (that I have downloadet), Homevideos (despite what other people might think, these do not belong in Moving Pictures ) and stuff like that.

I did NOT mean that we would kick out MyVideos from MediaPortal.

MediaPortal is meant to provide basic functionality in a stable way. As you said, more "specialized" solutions were created by the community which is really great.

For MediaPortal 2 however, we plan to have a much more flexible "My Videos" feature.

If it isn't there already (I miss a lot nowadays) I would like to see a 'Favorites' category added to all 3 (much like channel groups in MyTV), that can sorted by group name and locked if necessary, primarily to separate approved media for the grandkids - but also allow the media to be further tailored to individuals in the audience.

I haven't jumped in to using MyTV Series (I don't have a lot of TV Series accumulated yet), But I can definitely see the need for keeping Moving Pictures, TV Series and MyVideos discreet.
