TVE3 RC1 on Windows 2003 Server? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm running TVService on Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2. The MP client runs on Winxp MCE SP2.

I've been having problems with live TV lipsyncing, it tends to stray out wildly sometimes and other times it can be fine. I've installed RC1 and the problem still persists. My Videos playback is fine, just the TV.

Given that the RC1 installer warns about Win 2003 about a dozen times throughout the install, even with the TVService only install I am wondering if it's a Windows 2003 issue although I see many people running TVE3 on Win2003 without issue.

Is it worth me reinstalling my server to XP, or should I be looking elsewhere? If anyone knows of any Service packs, tweaks or KB articles I should be applying I'd be grateful.

Addition: It seems like it's the FFDShow Mpeg2 decoder, this works perfectly with TVE3 running local but not as a client to a foriegn server.

What I still do have though is a problem with seeking through timeshifted streams. When I shift the results are random. Sometimes it will not shift at all and other times it shifts way too much, rarely will it shift by the right time. Is this possibly a problem with write caching? My TV data is stored on a RAID5 array with hardware write caching.

It gets even worse with TVserver RC1

when i start the TVserver configuration tool i get the following message box.

"Your platform is not supported by Microsoft and therefore lacks critical updates! Please check our Wiki requirements page"

Well i checked at Microsoft, and W2K3 R2 is still on the list of supported operating systems, and also checked the patchlevel of my server and it is completely patched according to Microsoft.

I think Server Services like "TVSERVER" should run on a Server operating system why all the warnings??

Because Server operating system lack a lot of DirectX / DVB updates and so they are not a good platform for application such MediaPortal.

BTW, the warning come from our installer and has nothing to do with M$ supporting policy.

How did you get TVServer to recognize your DVB card in Windows 2003? I installed the latest drivers for my card but TVServer won't show the card.

I ran the tv service and 2 clients on Win2003 for over a year. Once I switched to XP things have been *much* more stable. Not sure why.

Turns out it was the streaming ip or something. Managed to change something for the card to show up.

I have to say that I don't get many problems with stability on W2003r2, especially after RC1. The only really noticable problem is with skipping, when I skip +-15 seconds it has no effect, 30 seconds or above seems to work but the further you skip the more out it goes, for example a 5 minute skip request ends up skipping 10-12 minutes.

What I do have though is a couple of command files, one which runs on the server and listens for a signal (waitfor) and restarts the TV Service if a request is seen from another command file on the client. This allows me to use Auto Hotkey to request a TV Server restart, which is generally about once a week. I'm not certain enough that I'd see a significant improvement in reliability if I moved to Win XP given the hastle of reinstalling a multi-role server.

I guess I could set up another test PC running Win XP and try that for a few days...

Installed drivers, fitted card, showed driver install where drivers were. Sorry, it was that easy!

I'm seeing the same thing with skipping TV. Skipping video/movies is fine. I can't remember if this happened on my XP installation as well but I don't think it did. I wish MP was supported under w2k3, I'm setting up a multirole server too and XP/Vista doesn't cut it.
