    TV-Server Crashes

I basically can’t use Media Portal as ‘normal’ TV

My setup is ‘networked’ – one machine with the TvServer (XP Pro@Pentium D / 2GB Ram) and two other machines with clients (HTPC as shown above & my ‘workstation’)

First of all – the TvServer don’t start automatically – even though it’s on ‘auto-start’ in services!

When I have manually started the server I can successfully start my MP client, and watch live-tv and change channels etc.
(But the ‘first’ channel that MP starts will not be shown – after I change the channel once everything is fine!)

If I close the MP client and try to open the MP client again, it hangs for a long time in ‘Loading Window Plugins’ (aprox 30 sec.) – when it finally starts it’s not possible to enter MyTv (MP freezes!)

When I check my server the TvServer has stopped!!!!!!!
    – I can manually start it again, but it’s “Groundhog day” all over again! (It works fine once – and then crashes)

When I check the system-events on the Server, I can see the errors listed below. - It’s worth noticing that the errors appear WHILE I watch TV (remember MP works one time after service restart), and they don’t seem to affect ‘that session’ – I can change channels and watch TV for quite a while (haven’t timed – but never crashes, I always close MP).

    The errors:

Source: SideBySide - Event ID: 32
Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Source: SideBySide - Event ID: 59
Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.MFC. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Source: SideBySide - Event ID: 59
Generate Activation Context failed for Z:\MediaPortal TV Server\KNCBDACTRL.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

As I write this (and copy-paste the desriptions etc.) I can see that the server actually ‘crashes’ for no apparent reason….

    Finally I just thought I should mention another (small and unimportant) problem I noticed;
when I press ‘Y’ in live-tv, the entire screen goes blue – not just the EPG info boxes! – When you press ‘Y’ again live-tv returns!

I really –RELLY- hope you can help me with a solution!!!

I am seeing a lot of problems with 14720.

I have gone back to 14711 which was the last release with the most stability and less of the critical bugs that you have listed.

First of all – the TvServer don’t start automatically – even though it’s on ‘auto-start’ in services!
This should be fixed in svn now - I've added a dependency on the sql server which makes sure it is started before the tvservice.exe.

    This will be addressed tomorrow..

Btw - the problem was exactly the same with Rev14715!

This should be fixed in svn now - I've added a dependency on the sql server which makes sure it is started before the tvservice.exe.
    - I thought this was added in TvServer Rev14709 ?!?

Are there other reports of crashes like this?

A related question that I have tried to ask before, but without any anwsers; "What do I need to do to make a sufficient SVN-update?"
-can I update ther server just by itself - and leave the plug-in untouched on the client?
    - please post anwser regarding the last question in the linked thread!

    Side by Side issues

    TV-Server Version: 14791
Windows Version: Server 2K3 V5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790
    CPU Type: AMD XP 2GHz
    Memory: 1GB
    Motherboard: MSI KT3 Series
    Motherboard Chipset: Via KT333 / VT8233A
    Motherboard Bios: AMI
    1. TV Card: Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T-500
    1. TV Card Type: DVB-T
Network speed: 1GB on server, 1GB Switch, 100MB Players
CVonfiguration: 1 TV Server and 3 Remote Players

I have just (in the last few days) rebuilt my home server with a fresh fully patched W2K3, latest SQL2K5 Express and TV Server V14791.

    I rebuilt my machine after running with various levels of success with a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1300 board but suffered from a number of issues (including only one recordable channel) the most anoying of which was the following;
TV player kept freezing and the TV Server service on the server took all the RAM (up to 800MB) until the server crashed. I had this vith several recent releases of TV Server.
I assumed some of this may be due to poor receptioon and the signal momentarily beeing lost.

I purchased the T-500 card as it is solt as being much more sensetive to poor signals.

I now have the same issue as the other post, the service crashes on boot up, although will start manually (very slow though). Once started I get the same side-by-side errors (which i incidentally got with previous releases of TV player.....

Any thoughts? What is the side-by-side service/application????

I have spent TOOOO much time trying to get this to work.

    HELP!:(
