I have a problem setting up TV Server over a lan. I have got it setup with server and client on the same machine with no problem. (Well a blaster problem, but that's another issue), but have no luck in getting the client to work over a LAN. Both connections to Media Portal and the Database (SQL Server 2005) are ok. I have also managed to connect to the stream through VLC media player with no problems, so the stream, and connections seem to be ok, but from inside Media Portal Client, I only get a blank screen for 2 secs, before it reverts back to the guide. Anybody got any ideas? Is there any restriction on the bandwidth. I only have a wireless 11mbps connection at the moment, but this seems ok for VLC.

No Comments?

Is there anything I can check? Logs etc etc

I'm assuming if I can view the stream through VLC then I have the server setup properly. So perhaps, the client is where I'm missing something, but not sure what?

    Well, the log file of both TVEngine and MediaPortal could help :)

    I installed MediaPortal last week, and tvengine a few days ago. I've made great progress, and while I'm really happy with MediaPortal, I would like to get TVServer working over the LAN. So if someone can point me to where the logs are, and anything I should look out for, then that would be great.

    I'd also like to say, I think MP is a great piece of software. I've had my HTPC for a while now, and initially stuggled with MCE, which apart from the fact that it was hell to get working in the first place, doesn't let me mix cards and guides. I then moved to GBPVR, which was an improvement on MCE, but didn't look as good, and I started having problems with waking up, which the developer (remember it's not open source) said he can't reproduce, end of story. I went back to MCE, but soon realised why I'd abandoned it. Now I'm using MP. It's better than MCE and GBPVR, and looks better than even MCE in my opinion. And the biggest plus is that it's open source. I know that problems will be fixed.

    This is becoming a one man thread...but here goes.

    Log tells the story.

    RTSPPlayer:exception while creating DShow graph Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {51B4ABF3-748F-4E3B-A276-C828330E926A} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80040273. at MediaPortal.Player.VMR9Util.AddVMR9(IGraphBuilder graphBuilder)
    at MediaPortal.Player.RTSPPlayer.GetInterfaces()

    So what do I have missing on this PC?

    Probably doesn't help you much but I have the same problem. I saw elsewhere in that that CLSID refers to the quartz.dll file and there are some updates available but that didn't seem to help me. I am trying updating windows media player to see if that fixes anything.

    I have some idea it may be related to having an on board video card, the PC I have the problems with has on board and I see yours does too.
