Vista 64, SP1. Even tried fresh install.

Can not start TVservice. Iget the error when trying to run the TV Server config. Or at least MEdiaportal doesn't think it's running, however, if I check Vista Services TVService, and mediaportal service are indicated as being started. If I manually start TVService with the EXE, I can see it show up task manager, I'll get an error saying TVService not running, and in about 10-15 seconds in Taskmanager the TVService*32 vanishes. As a result, I can not setup MP properly.

Finally I found someone who has the same problem like me (with comparable hardware configuration).

Just finished trying RC3 without any success :(

Isn't anyone out there who can help us Vista64 guys with some tricks to get that tv service thing running???

I also tried MCE with new UDR and latest BDA drivers - but even there I got told that I should update my tv card driver because it is not compatible with MCE...

Waiting for some helpful thoughts about that.....

By the way: ProgDVB is running without any problems...

I have the same issue also, but in Windows XP 32bit. Cannot start TV-Server Configuration because the service is not running - even though it is and the only way to continue is to abnormally terminate the SetupTV.exe.

Cheers Mike

oops!!! I needed to actually read the instructions! Service Pack 3. Sorry...

Alright - I found a solution how to get TVServer to work with our problems.

First of all go to task manager and open flag "services". If TVService occurs in the list it is probably not started and alos cannot be started with right mouse subfunction. If TVService is not listed just start Media Portal TV server configuration by using shortcut on the desktop or by starting SetupTV.exe in MP subfolder "MediaPortal TV Server".

After that you can push the button "Services" within task manager -> flag "services". In the list you go to TVService -> Right-mouse -> Properties and take a look to which path this service is referenced.

Now you have to reinstall Media Portal and TV Server in exactly the same folder. Therefor you have to select Individual installation (not 1-click) and (!IMPORTANT!) you have to remove the option "Configure Firewall" when chosing the installation path for TVServer.

After everything is finished you start Media Portal TV server configuration and the SQL login window occurs. Username: sa
Password: MediaPortal
-> Test -> Succeeded -> Save

Now the configuration window pops up and you can start configuring your LNB settings.

For me it worked....finally after months of trying

still not working for me. I installed both into the same path which was
C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server, unchecked the firewall option for TV server, although I fail to see why this would even effect it, but I did it anymways.

and of course, I did the sql test, saved it, and then I get prompted to start the TV service, and then I get prompted again....and again. Service never starts.

newfmp3:

Did you get an error message when installing TV-Service? After deselecting Firewall configuration I did not anymore and installation finished correctly.

Have you tried to directly open TVservice.exe in Windows Explorer before entering TV-Server Configuration through Shortcut? I started it several times during my different ways to get that thing started. I would suggest to try deactivating and activating the Service within Task manager and/or Windows Explorer.
With correct installation path there should be no problem when registry is set up correctly.

By the way: I unsigned the firewall-option during installation process because of another thread in forum. There seems to be some problem with it when not having activated the original windows firewall. In my case I would say this was necessary for getting TV-Service installed proberly.

Didnt work for me.

Thought RC3 would solve my problems... but it hasn't... Thinking of abandoning Media Portal to be honest.

It does everything else I ask of it, but the TV side is a complete letdown. I'm not prepared to go and spend more money on a compatible TV Card when my Pinnacle 4000i works fine in VMC and DVBViewer.

I have abandoned it. I don't like it's need for a sql server, among other things it's just too bloated. I could never get it to work, and even without the tvserver option, I found the gui slow. I tried mediaportal back a few years ago, when the xbmc was the thing to have and mediaportal was supposed to be the pc equal to it. Then it was also very slow, and it seems that hasn't changed over the years.

Too bad, it looked promising.
