I'm having an issue that seems like it may be related. I think I've gotten a pretty good feel for how to reproduce it. In my case, I boot into XP SP3 32bit, start MP 1.0.1, and open the TV mode. It always seems to be fine on this first load. Then I close out of TV and MP back to the Windows desktop. If I open MP again immediately or within a few minutes, everything still seems to be fine. But if I exit and then wait a while (not sure how long -- generally see it after waiting half an hour or more), I start seeing issues when I open MP again. I can open MP just fine, but as soon as I try to go to the TV section, MP locks up and I have to kill it with task manager. At this point, I usually just restart the computer and the cycle repeats.

I'm new here. What other information can I provide to help address this? I've noticed that everybody seems to post a common list of system information. Is this something I can copy+paste from somewhere in MP or do I need to fill it out manually? The short version is that I'm running XP SP3 32bit, 2GB RAM, Geforce 8600GT, Hauppage HVR-1800, and Media Portal 1.0.1.

    Hi,
serverhack, collect logs after a issue with "MediaPortal logs collector" found in start menu -> Progs -> Team MediaPortal folder, need to see windows event error which is logged when this happens.
You can also try to disable EPG grabbing...

OK, I'll try it. I've been testing SVN code being compiled with no results due to an error compiling TVService.

I'm installling 1.0.1 again and let you know.

    Thanks, SHack

PD: alamysm, you can introduce the information of your systems in user control panel.

I don't have any logs to share yet, but I have noticed two more things.

    1. I originally thought that I could consistently safely load MP and TV mode the first time after booting into Windows. This does not appear to be the case, which (based on my understanding of the OP's situation) seems to put what I'm experiencing more in line with what the OP describes. I think I can just boot Windows, wait some as-yet-undetermined amount of time, and then load MP and attempt to start the TV. In this scenario, MP would lock up and I'd need to reboot to get it working again.

    2. I have been able to work around the issue by starting MP shortly after Windows boots and then exiting full-screen mode and minimizing MP rather than exiting completely. As long as I minimize rather than exit, I can bring MP back up and turn TV mode on and off as often as I need.

As previously suggested, I turned off EPG grabbing, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm new to this though so it's possible that I simply didn't disable it completely.

I'll see if I can get some logs soon.

    Hello Ronilse and Alamysm,

I installed yesterday MP and TV Server downloading again from the website, single seat. For now I can't reproduce the error: TVService is working fine. As alamysm did I have turned off EPG grabbing too, but in difference to alamysm I have not executed MP yet, I'm testing with manual control (when TVService stopped, manual control did'nt work neither anymore).

I have turned on EPG grabbing in order to see if that's the problem. I have collected logs with TVService working properly, so I'll wait until it fails, and later I'm testing executing MP and exiting; I'll let you know.

Is there any other revision in download section for version 1.0.1 different from the one on April the 9th?

Thank you, I'll keep you informed.

    SHack

    Hello All,

I have a problem that might be related.

I updated my Mediaportal and TV Service from 1.0 to 1.0.1 three days ago. I use Mediaportal only on that PC and it does some other server like things (download, file serving, etc). Mediaportal is usually off when I'm not using it but the TV Service keeps running ofcourse, so I can use it on other PC's and laptops with the TVclient. The morning after update, my Server was frozen. I could see the starfield from the screensaver, but no input possible. I restarted and had the same issue for three times, all with about 4 hours in between. Linking it to my update I tried seeing what was running from it, and its only the tvservice. I stopped the service and ran for 2 days without problems, turning it on when I want to watch and turning it off after. Yesterday though I fell asleep with MP turned on watching a movie. Allthough I wasn't watching TV, MP had started the service on startup and when I woke up the thing was frozen again.

It's not the same complaint others have, but I'm pretty sure its related to new version of TV service. I'll keep reading to see if I can find more info.

    Hi,

I'm glad (not for you) but I started to think it was only with me... ;-)

Now I have forced EPG grabbing, and 1 hour later there it is!!! The TVService does not respond.

Ronilse I upload the logs, first one when it was working without EPG and the second one with EPG grabbing on and TVService not responding. After collecting logs I have disabled EPG grabbing to see the behavior.

Can yo extract something from logs? I don't see any strange...

    Thanks and best regards.

    SHack.

    Hi Ronilse,

I upload more logs, the one after killing process TVService.exe, execute SetupTV.exe (which begins TVService) and disable EPG Grabbing.

    Thank you, SHack

    Hi all,

Everytime I check for enabling EPG the TVService crashes. I see it's a bug with an ID (0001980) assigned in your Mantis System, but I can see it is closed and resolved in version 1.0.1, but the error persists.

Is it the EPG problem re-assigned or is it working in any SVN or release? I have watched ID 0001980 is an error for Windows Vista but my system is Windows XP

    Any help please?

    Thanks, Shack

    Hi,
The issue has been reopened by tourette, so lets see if any has time to check it out & check logs. Seems like this epg hang issues is somehow back, i had it awhile ago, but it was fixed for me. Will enable it again(using xml grabbing instead since it has more days) to test if i can reproduce.

    Regards
    Roy
