they arent split into categories. I dont know if online videeos can be clever and somehow group by program name?

I've been trying to get 4od working via the channel4 website instead of youtube. The categories etc... are easy enough, but having a real issue getting the videos to play, does anyone know if it is simply a non starter?

4oD via YouTube is already working and only needs a fix for the categories.
The 4oD website playback seems rather hard to get working - check the xbmc forums.

And being a bit stupid I am struggling to figure out 4OD. Above says it is setup by youtube but I could not see anything? Do I still need to configure this manually?

It seems the chaps at RTMPDump have been busy

rtmpdump is a toolkit for RTMP streams. All forms of RTMP are supported, including rtmp://, rtmpt://, rtmpe://, rtmpte://, and rtmps://.

Recently I've been busy incorporating the librtmp.dll (part of rtmpdump) into onlinevideos, so after the release of the next version, you should be able to view all websites for which parameters exist for rtmpdump.

Cool, would be good to have the remaining ITV Player, Channel 4 and Channel 5 on demand added to online videos. The YouTube incarnations of 4oD and Demand5 don't seem to work through online videos and the direct sites Channel 4 - 4oD and Demand 5 | Channel 5 have more content.

I agree, it would be great to get 4od, itv and 5 working prolerly in OV.
