Uk tv advertising sound volume aaarrrgghh (1 Viewer)

hope this is in the right section,
here in the uk many(most, all) of the stations boost the sound volume during the advertising breaks.
on my system which is piped thru the hifi the sound suddenly becomes intolerable and constantly adjusting the volume is a pain.
anyone know of a technical way round this, some form of auto gain control maybe?

I'm pleased to hear it is not just me that suffers this then - I now just mute the TV when the ads come on.

I don't know the answer, though I would be interested in a solution.

I know FFdShow has a normalise option - but I'm not sure what affect this will have on films/movies/normal programs where you want/expect this sudden loudness?

Hi guys,

I wrote MyVolume to set the loudness of each channel, but it won't help for advertising.

I tried FFDShows normalizing option, it helps a lil bit, but you will loose the dynamic in movies, so I disabled it.

ComSkip would be good for this job, but I thinks thats only useful with recordings.

lol you may be right but the news is a nice(?) thing to watch live

it's just occurred to me if a successful comskip type application used volume level as part of the com skip detection process, would it actually stop stations doing this to hinder the comskip type app?
