I just built a new HTPC as my old one did not have the specs to play BDs. I loaded Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and then followed the instructions provided on avsforum for installing MediaPortal. I rip my BDs to m2ts using DVDFab. I rip the Main Movie and audio only so I was hoping Moving Pictures would handle the playback capabilities. I added .m2ts to the video extensions in the MP configuration editor, but I get an error trying to play the files and I am assuming it has to do with VC-1 codec and 64 bit. :( Is there any workaround? Am I better off installing Win 7 32 bit? Or do I just need to bite the bullet and buy ANOTHER software program to play them?

Thanks!

The MPC-HC Standalone filters will play those files fine, and is open-source. MediaPortal is 32-bit, so it will require the 32-bit version, which is no problem because you can install both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of the MPC filters on your x64 setup (I have the same).

The MediaPortal v1.0.2 stable version works as well, but for DXVA subtitle support, you need to install the hotfix. I personally prefer this over the MePo SVN, but the latter should include the fix by default.

To actually find the files mentioned above, and better instructions on how to install/use them, search the forum, as this has been answered many times before.

OK, so MPC-HC will play the m2ts files, but I will need to configure an external player in Moving Pictures correct? I would prefer to use the built in player for simplicity, but if I have no other option then I guess I need to go this route.

I'm not interested in subtitles so don't really need the hotfix then, correct?

I assume you mean to search the forum for the files related to MPC-HC. I did a search for my issue with VC-1 and came up empty. I'm not a forum regular here as I'm still new to HTPCs and MP, but I am moderator on a photo forum and frequent several others so I'm familiar with the search function. ;)

You can use the stand-alone filters, so that the internal player works.

And yes, if you do not care for subtitles, then the hotfix is not needed. Subtitles still work as well, just not via DXVA.

And my bad it was on MP-TVSeries forum that I answered the question in detail.

So please read last post @ https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/my-tvseries-162/mkv-multiple-audio-tracks-77486/

Instead of the Haali splitter, you can also use the splitter contained within the MPC-HC standalone pack. It is called "MatroskaSplitter.ax" there.

Also to force DXVA, it is best to use the DirectShow Filter Manager tool (as per post) to configure the "MPCVideoDec.ax" properties as per: http://blixy.net/codecs/MPC.Video.png

I'll do some reading, some downloading, and some configuring and hopefully get it all working!

    OK some follow up.

I already was using the MPC-Video Decoder, however I had installed the 32 bit version. Not sure if that was a problem or not, likely not since as you said MP is 32 bit.

I used RadLight Filter Manager to check my settings for the MPC-Video Decoder and set it per the image above.

Now, I have two test discs ripped to the hard drive. One is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the other is Star Trek. HP won't play and is trying to use the VC-1 codec. Star Trek will play and is using h264, but it stutters. I am only checking video right now, no audio yet.

Star Trek does, however, play smooth in WMP.

Both movies were ripped via DVDFab, albeit at different times. Now I am even more confused.

    Another update:

I decided to uninstall AC3Filter, Haali, and ffdshow and install the SAF pack. That seemed to solve a couple of issues I was having. I can now play the files that I couldn't play earlier. Star Trek and Harry Potter both play fine including audio. So I ripped a couple more movies and they don't play properly. Here is the run down.

Bourne Ultimatum - will not play at all. No errors pop up, it just doesn't do anything.
Iron Man - Plays, but has some horrible blocking/banding and the audio stutters. I can play it in WMP and the video is fine, but no audio.
Terminator 3 - Same as Bourne Ultimatum

I never encountered any errors while ripping and the files for Bourne and Terminator are in the upper 20GB, low 30GB range.

Also, I can no longer play my custom intro, the FOX logo. It is an AVI file.

    Any ideas?
