Hi Oscar,

I added the following section 10.5 to get rid of your problem.
It's again the chain that starts thinking to itself and starts using different codecs although the specified codecs work anyway.... However, the below should work for you (for all solutions; AC3 and mp1/mp2).

10.5 UNREGISTER ALL OTHER MP2/MP3/AC3 Codecs!!!
* Start -> Run... -> cmd<enter>
* unregsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\mpadecfilter.ax
- Should return succes
* unregsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\mpegaudio.dll
(These are only the ones that come with mediaportal, so if you have others installed then you must REMOVE THEM, this is very important! If you don't; you might up with channels without sound!)

    This weekend I tried with the ffdshow version linked above, and I had nothing but trouble. Once ffdshow was installed with the default audio codecs enabled (and no video codec) TV stopped working (black screen with no audio). The worst was that I had no way to get it back working except system restore, uninstall MediaPortal, reinstall and setup again :( . Because this was too strange I tried a second time, but with the same results. After a few more hours I gave up, I couldn't find what was breaking TV, and comparing the installation with working backups wasn't conclusive.

    At this point I strongly recommend not installing ffdshow unless you're prepared to spend many hourse and have a full disk image, just in case. I updated my Ghost images so if something else breaks, at least I have a working image and I won't loose much time to get everuthing working.

    I don't have audio on audio streams 2 and 3 for TV3, and no audio on 3/24, yet :(

    Like you are saying, however I think advising a bit rapidly without having the knowledge, this is very strange and is definitely isolated as we have had 1200 visits to this post and 2 others posting not having this.... So please, don't advise anything unless you are sure... Also, if you read the other posts of users you would read what would be the possible information you could provide me to solve it. Otherwise, don't post...

    Messing with codecs is a known source of problems, and one that sometimes is difficult to fix. So here comes my warning.

    I will investigate further now that I have a full Ghost image. Since my system is exclusively for HTPC purposes, it's a very controlled system. I don't install programs or anything, just what I need to run Media Portal and the system itself.

    Hello again
    Ghosted back to a clean XP install and installed MP with latest SVN without any codecs and followed the guide. Now it seams to work mutch better! Cant get the channel6 file to work (only plays in front speakers) because despite the hack the music player wont wake ffdshow! But for every video and tv ffdshow wakes up and sound seams correct (tested surround sound wmv and divx videos)! Have to wait for a TV program with both AC3 and multisurround to be sure. In ffdshow output only checked 16 bit integer seams to work best. Again, a big thanks for this great guide!!!
    Regards

    Thanks for the guide. It has helped a lot! I'm still not quite there yet though.

    I've been wrestling with audio issues for a while now and i'm really starting to get down about it.
    The problem that i'm having is when i use the 6chan wma its not coming out right. When xp speaker settings are set to 5.1 I get the front r/l but not the rear or sub. But if i switch the xp speaker setup option to quadrophonic then i get the front R/L and center and the rear speakers come out both rear and front.

    I installed the hotfix you linked so i cant think of what else to try. i'm temped to format and reinstall xp and start from scratch.

    Any ideas?

    Hi - Thanks for this great post.

    I'm struggling with getting 5.1 working from my MP to my Yamaha AMP - the connection I'm using is optical SPIDF and it works great for stereo and when I use SPIDF pass through I get full 5.1 sound but I can't get 5.1 working for other content - in the sound settings of windows I have 5.1 sellected and when I click on the front left and right speakers it works but all other speakers don't work.

    I've applied the hotfix (KB888111) - I didn't know about that before so I had great hopes for it but it didn't seem to make any difference... I've also tried various different drivers etc... Anyone got any ideas? This doing my head in :)

    (BTW I know it's not hardware because the same set up in Vista worked.).

    I Have DVI>HDMI (audio over HDMI with ATI 3xxx) connected to my Yamaha RXV661.

    I cant get it to work stable as well with the suggested drivers.
    Now I use an external player, the KM Player, within MP. In the program there is an option to use AC3 realtime decoding to SPDIF. This works wonders form me with all my movies.

    Goodluck

    BTW. Do you have DVI>HDMI converter or Soundcard with SPDIF out?

    Hi Edterbak - I have a soundcard SPDIF out :|

    I will check out KM Player - did you try ffdshow at all? (as audio codec)
