Thanks for your work iosub :)

To cut it short:
Does your patch/fix for the DVRMS problem work as expected or not?
Is it confirmed by other user?

If it's confirmed i would integrate it but from the running thread i couldn't determine if it works or not

Last weekend I experienced two problems with the RC1 patch for playing DVRMS:
1. I couldn't play my DVD's from my HDD anymore; after restoring RC1 it worked again
2. Not all DVRMS recordings could be played with the patch

I will do some additional testing with the RC1 SVN patch and if I experience these problems again, I will add the logs as well.

Iosub, sorry for throwing this in, but I was triggered by Gemx remark
Anyway, I really appreciate all the work you and all the other MP developers are doing :D

Ron

What codecs are you using?? I have set on MyMovies to use Automatic codecs selection an works..

Also, I'm using Vista with MS codecs..

I was using DScaler for MPEG-2 when I could not play DVD's from HDD (see MediaPortal_log1).
I changed to the MS decoders and DVD's play fine :D .
I will try some other MPEG-2 decoders (e.g. NVidia) as well. Keep you posted.
The other issue is still there, i.e. some DVRMS files will not play?! (see MediaPortal_log)

    No longer recommended.

I will try some other MPEG-2 decoders (e.g. NVidia)

    Again not recommended (not updated)

Think both M$ and PDVD7\8 codecs take a lot of beating under a wide variety of viewing circumstances, with very little cpu difference and both recommended for dvr-ms\mpeg\ts playback without issues.

    HD a different thing.

Sorry for going slightly off topic iosub, but it is relevant.

I don't want to change topic from the DVRMS focus, but could the smart zoom part of the patch be implemented into MP? I have been using various patches for it since 0.2.3.0 RC2 and it has always worked fine and not caused problems for me or anyone else. I understand there is a featurefreeze but it just replaces a useless zoom mode (Pan & Scan) with smart zoom, which will be used by anyone with a 16:9 TV.

Don't worry, I completly agree with your coment, Under Vista the best a lest problematic codec is M$ for SD material and PDvd for HD..

can you play that DVRMS on another computer?? Because if is DR protected that's why MP can not play.. If is a DR protected file only MCE and WMP can play it... Thats another issue that this fix is not going to fix.. MP does not implemet DR (Digital Right Management)..

So my conclusion is that the patch does what it supouse to do, Play DRVMs (non Protected) under MP..

    Iosu

but could the smart zoom part of the patch be implemented into MP

I agree, this is a brilliant mode for watching 4:3 material on a widescreen TV, and does not tend to look distorted.

Yes and the patch is simple and works great for me for the last 4 month

GEMX, I also add the source here..

OK, I will remove these problematic decoders (although NVidia was working with the patch ;)).

I was not aware of the DRM status of these recordings, these were recorded on the same PC (MCE2005 / VMC) and can still be played with M$ Media Player and VMC. I thought DRM was intended for protecting digital media to be copied / distributed freely?! I am still on the same PC

    Thanks anyway!

I don't think MPV is going to be able to decode Hdef material, you need PowerDVD ..
So yes, I think your problem is codecs problem..
If you are able to play SD MSDVR with my patch and HD DVR is not possible, then there is a Codec problem.. check with automatic codec selecction or set powerDVD as codec..

    iosub,

FYI - I used Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility to set nVidia Decoder as preferred decoder and I can now play ATSC HD, ATSC SD, and NTSC.

I have no idea why setting it as preferred decoder only in MediaPortal did not fix the problem...I have attached a screenshot of the decoders I also had installed in case you are interested to see.

I hope this tip helps others who wish to play dvr-ms files created on a Media Center Edition 2005 RU2 machine and are using the patch created by iosub.

So you set on my movies "automatic codec selection" with XP Decoder checkup you have set a Higher filter merit, MPV is not able to play all the msdrv files correcty, Nvidia is able..

Nice to see that my patch beneficts other users..

    Note..

AH! is not my patch, the code change is from other users I just add the code and compile...
