Right, first off let me say that I've got MP1 RC4 working fine on my HTPC (what a terribly posh name for a PC...!), it's fine, it's working great. (Did a fresh install/update of XP a week ago specifically for this reason - my wife is SOOOO long suffering.)

Now using the same MP1 RC4 on a Vista Home Premium laptop (just the TV client), I get a warning about the os being unsupported and carry on at own risk.

So carry on, MP Config comes up but stops when closing, similarly starting MP gets the message then stops on the splash screen.

The Vista is totally patched (as of this morning 21st Dec) - except for a Bluetooth fix (which kills my Toshiba stack - way to go Microsoft!) Doesn't need the DVB patch or anything like that...

(Only really want this to write a plugin - it's my dev laptop. Yes, MP will get it gratis when it's completed.)

I looked around and only found one other post so there is obviously something wrong with MY setup but I'll be darned if I can work it out.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Oh the new install, great, new Blue wide OK (don't like the 'shaded' Tetris cells but that's OK - could do with big black bars down the sides too - might do that!).

Overall aside from the rather painful TV setup (mentioned by others but not a killer) this has REALLY come on in the past year.

How you find the time/inclination I don't know but serious congratulations to all folks.

(Oh, early days but my live/recorded TV freezes seem to have gone, if it lasts a couple of weeks another donation coming your way as promised.)

Thanks for ALL the work, this is an amazing product.

Congratulations on getting MP to work on Xp Pc (ah...?).
Please, a hint, how did you manage to set up a stable Tv server ?
Sure, I can watch Tv, but my keyboard escape button is being ignored when in full screen, as is channel changing, and I feel like I am at the mercy of the gods... only way out is by putting computer to sleep with my unrecognized (as yet) remote. Minimizing is also out of a question, and when cursor is at top of screen it doesn't bring out all the usual controls.
    "Help me I think I am falling"
    Please...
    Thanks.

I had an instance where MP was freezeing on the splash. THis was on XP SP3.....all MS updates, etc, etc installed. what I ended up finding was that my machine was infected with a virus or 23...

anyways, an online scan & clean did the trick and all was working again..... maybe worth a try...

    Screen shot? what screen shot???

Hi again, I love forums, I couldn't >PAY< for support like this!

OK, no screen shot, it just stops on the spash 'screen' (small box actually) it says it is loading plugins. I haven't installed anything extra, so in the usual way of denial "it's not my fault".

(Actually my initial HomeSeer plugin is running fine on the HTPC, but it is so tedious having to copy it across just to see what the skin looks like.)

Even the MP config is freezing on startup now - weird isn't it.

Virus is a good(ish) idea - currently doing a Trend Homecall online scan, results later.

Not much else I can say...any more info and I'll post.

Thank you to ALL those who responded. Updates as they happen...

    Oh, to Alan,

I just installed it and it ran fine. I use Digital Everywhere for the TV tuners (but I did have a Nebula DigiTV card before that). Three cards, one doing Sky (PAID FOR), one which was on FreeSata (not bothered with tbhis yet) and one for FreeView, might get another one for the motorised satellite (MP's lack of solid support for this notwithstanding).

I had previously tried to use MySQL and to be honest I'd still like to use it but I decided (as this is RC4) just to do a one click install (which uses SQL Server Express).

It certainly helps having done previous installs so you know what to expect (as I'm sure you do too).

Can't think of anything out-of-the-ordinary that I did. It really was a format update (many, mnay times, zzzz...) and then install HomeSeer and then MediaPortal.

I haven't installed ForTheRecord yet, which I was using before to give me TiVo (TM) -like functions. (Their fault for abandoning the UK).

    No virusesss/virii

As it says, no virus found by Homecall, few security holes (>more< patches from good ol' MS).

So I'm at a loss, it works on my XP (Pro) box but not this laptop - odd!

Any ideas folks - I'd REALLY like to be able to test the TCP/config on this plugin on a machine that I can run DevStudio on.

(Now if only nice HomeSeer will tell me the protocol so I don't have to sit and analyse traces....)

by the sounds of it, you have added extra plugins before entering config for the first time? Correct me if I am wrong.

If you have, remove these plugins to see if this is the cause. Also log files may help in deducing the problem.

    ort of OK now...

Thank you all for the help.

I didn't >think< I'd put any extra plugins in, but couldn't put hand on heart and swear to it, however.

Just totally deinstalled MP/TVServer, ran CCleaner, Defraggler and then installed... (dramatic pause) VERSION 1!

This still whinged abut Vista (that's OK, I do too), but did a client install OK.

Starting MP brought up config (same complaint) but froze on quit (so I killed it - evil ain't I).

But this seemed to be all that was needed, MP now comes up OK.

I've now got a plugin for HomeSeer that does everything EXCEPT actually talk to HomeSeer!!!

(OK, you may think that's useless, but it's several hours work.)

In fact once I can either - a) get some info from HomeSeer or b) work out the protocol by TCP sniffing, then we'll have a working plugin, I'll put it into MP then.

I desperately need this - my long suffering wife is even letting me X10 the boiler!!! (It is SUCH a pain when we have power cuts.)

Anyway it is such a toy :D

I'll be putting MP Verison 1 onto the XP box sometime soon, on current showing it is definitely 'fit for purpose', our old TiVo has been sitting in the cupboard for months now.

Excellent work to all of you.
