Hello,

My old 1.2.2.0 Mediaportal kept crashing the last few days,
so I've finally updated my installation to 1.5.0 Final.

Everything went smoothly,
but I have a problem when I playback a video file ( mkv ).

The video is tearing ( I believe it's called that ).
I didn't have this problem in the previous version.

I've tried some numerous settings, but nothing seems to help solve it.

I've tried to change the video codec, I use AVC, but have tried other ones from the list,
like ffdshow, LAV video decoder, powerdvd 8, but nothing changed.

I also tried enabeling dynamic refresh rate, but that doesn't help either
( in fact when I enable it, the screen goes black when I play a video file )

Can anyone help me solve this problem ?

Or perhaps I'll have to go back to an older version ? ( 1.3.0 Final ? )

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
Soxbrother

I disabled VMR9 and enabled EVR, now the tearing is 95 % gone.

I've run debug mode with VMR9 enabled,
included is the log file ( i've only included the most important logs )

I hope this is enough information.

Yep surely if you are on XP :)
Better to upgrade OS if you want recent MP version :)
    Good luck.

So to run 1.5.0, I need a faster pc ?
So I better downgrade to 1.3.0 or something,
or as you say to go to windows 7 ?
I think talk like this is extremely premature.
I run MP 1.8 on XP.
    Core 2 e6600 2.4 GHz, 4G RAM, AMD HD 6450.
I don't have problems with tearing.
Once again, if you want help I suggest you post log files.

That's why I stayed with 1.3.0 on XP. Tearing on XP was introduced in 1.4.0 because there were some windows7-oriented changes in directx/video part and nobody cared about WinXP users.

As far as I remember EVR is running only in software mode in Xp which is not always good thinking about high cpu load.

I didn't know you could install 1.80, I tought 1.5.0 was the last version that worked on XP.
I posted some log files a few post back in this thread.

I've read something about that in the forum, but they also said this was fixed in 1.5.0
    Probably not fixed entirely then.

As far as I remember EVR is running only in software mode in Xp which is not always good thinking about high cpu load.

in 1.2.2.0 EVR was disabled, no tearing,
now I have to enable it or else I get lots of tearing.
With EVR enabled now, I have to look hard to notice it.
I guess since the tearing problem I analyse a video more closely now.

By the way I just played an mkv, without any tearing.
Maybe some files will tear more than others or something.

    Thanks for the replies.(y)

    Ahhh, I see you edited.

Okay, so in those logs you're using an AMD 4850e and ATI HD 3400 to play 23.976 fps AVC progressive content with VMR 9, LAV splitter, Core AVC and AC3Filter.
Surely if you want to avoid tearing with 23.976 content you must enable refresh rate changing.
