I have switched to a Phenom 9750 (undervolted to 1,1 Volt with 2,4 GHz) and I don't have a problem anymore. Video quality is improved

only because of this 1080i issue I switched also to a Phenom (smallest X3). I also made the mistake buying a X2 BE-2400. I had long discussions with other members of this forum before who spoke about 1080p all the time, not admitting that 1080i is MUCH more difficult for the system. Just like a lot picture quality tests on the internet.

But I don´t see the necessity to undervolt at all! Cool&Quiet enabled it happens from itself (Vista "balanced" power settings) -> CPU goes down to 1,0 GHz, vCore about 1,05-1,1 V.

Well, but only if the system is idle or almost idle. Undervolting will also save power during heavy load times.

Okay, I guess this is the place to be; much techies here! :)

    Well, some problems, some questions:

    1. I have Vista U 32bit with a 780G mobo. Now I installed catalyst 8.9 and the EVR gives me a black screen for movies!! If I pause it's back. Does anyone know how to fix this? Catalyst 8.7 : EVR : ok.

    2. Catalyst 8.7 + EVR + no aero gives me tearing with all movies (a sort of horizontal breakline in the picture) !! How can I fix this?

    3. What is the diff between VRM9 and EVR ? What's best for me to use? I mainly see x.264 movies at a plasma.

    4. Do I need the AERO?

    1. Try this: deinstall the drivers, run a driver cleaner then reinstall (if you don't know how to do this use google)
    2. Put Aero on
    3. If you want hardware acceleration, then in vista use EVR and in XP use VRM9
    4. Yes

To reduce tearing you could also try increasing the process priority in MP Config. (search this forum if you don't know how to do this)

be careful with that under Vista. If you do a driver clean, it can happen that Vista's universal driver for ATi become deleted. This happened to me  Result: unable to boot, must reinstall vista completely...

I did that, that didn't help.

Is there a difference in image quality in EVR to VRM9 ?

The answer is yes, to much to go into detail. But one thing to remember is, on vista you need EVR for Hardware Acceleration. Many people don't see the difference in pq with wmr9 vs evr, but if you ask AV-enthusiast I believe most will prefer EVR.

Catalyst 8.8 & 8.9 works JUST FINE for my install with XP SP3. The only time I don't get HW ACC is when I use VobSub to add subtitles to MKV-files. But stay away from drivers 8.6 & 8.7 ;)
Did you have to do any registry tweaks for that? What motherboard are you using?

No reg. tweaks and using a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (rev 1.0) with vanilla drivers. As mentioned before I have no MPEG4 TV in my area so can't test that.
