The square box pissed me off, so I'm currently working on making new fanarts for all the shows I currently have in my DB.
I'll post them on your site Spuck when I'm done.

agree with jocke i guess that black box should be left to the program to render it and should not be on the pic

The overlay serves a purpose. Without it then some of the episode information would not be legible. Also, the amount of overlay needed depends on the image. By having this done in the image the creator can account for position and level of overlay, if an overlay is needed at all. If this were not to be done in the image then the skin would need to be able to adjust the overlay for each image.

Well, rather that, then the way it is now. Since there are several skins out there, it should be a skin-issue, not hardcoded into the fanart. Like for me now, using Monochrome, that squared box is just a pain in the ass.

It could be solved easy with two different static overlays - one for dark fanart, and one for light fanart. Since most fanart have light/dark in the filename, it would be easy for the plugin to figure it out. To speed up the plugin, this process would only take place when loading a fanart for the first time. If you change it, you'll need to delete a spesific folder and/or the cache-folder.

Not sure how much better that would be. Sounds like the skin is still going to display the overlay so we are back to where we left off. Actually a little worse since the skin is displaying a light or dark overlay only and a static level of overlay. The only way this would be an improvement is if the skin allowed the user to determine if an overlay was necessary, what color the overlay would be and how intense the overlay should be for each individual Fan Art. I think that would solve th problem right there.

Sweet, those boxes are really annoying with the skins I use.

Yeah, well, customized overlay for each fanart would do the trick aswell - my point isn't how many % transparent the overlay should be, but that the whole overlay-thing should be a plugin-issue - hell, even a seperate plugin to manage the fanart for what I care. The point is that I think it wasnt quite the smartest move to have the box hardcoded into all fanarts out there.

And obviously, as you can see, there are more then just me that doesnt like that square...
