Using multiple PCI E slots for TV cards (1 Viewer)

Hello,

At the moment I'm building a dedicated TV-server. The used mainboard (Asus M4A78LT-M) has two PCI-E slots:
- PCI Express x1
- PCI Express x16 (normally used for graphics)

Both PCI-E slots are free and there is no need for a graphics card (on board graphics are used).

Question:
Is it possible to put in every PCI-E slot a (dual) TV-card? In other words: one (dual) TV-card in PCI-Express x1 slot AND one (dual) TV-card in PCI-Express x16 slot?

Yes it is.. I have 3 x TBS6981 cards in mine (6 tuners)

Yeah I'm doing this too. I have 2x BGT3630 which have two tuners on each, so 4 tuners. Nice flexibility.

One of them is in a PCI-e x1, the other in an x16. Obviously the slot is longer but that doesn't matter, just push it right into the bit that it fits in and ignore the rest. Works fine.

How do you hook up multiple coax cables to your servers? Can you simply split the coax cable and share it among the multiple Tv card inputs, or does the main aerial feed have to be properly buffered and fed through a dedicated splitter?

Well I have an Octo LNB with 6 cables running from it.. I have those cabled to 3 x dual input cards..

Terrestrial splitting is quite easy - just split as many times as necessary. Satellite splitting is more complex as tuners use voltages and tones to control which signals are received from the LNB. If you have two satellite tuners connected to the same cable then they will fight over control of the LNB. You either need multiple feeds direct from the LNB like psykix has or a multiswitch.
