After much frustration, I decided that I was going to get rid of Windows Xp (SP3) and try Windows 7 instead. From a fresh Install, i got MP 1.02 installed and bingo my films now load immediatley without any major delay... However, during the installation process I noticed that if you create a local user for your computer and give them non-admin permissions then the delay in playing a film comes back.... I am not sure if this is a clue to the XP problem, but it is something you might want to investigate...

Windows 7 is very good by the way !!

Good luck and thanks again for everyones help.

I have the same problem also, but on a single seat installation! (Vista 32bit)

    - browsing videos as shared view very slow
    - starting a video playback lags few seconds, audio comes first and 5 sec later video

this problem came after a while, as movie collection grew bigger. Before everything was fast. Browsing in explorer very fast, starting movies (eg MPC-HT) immediate. Thats why I state that this is is an MP issue.

    Any clue?

    EDIT:
shame on me! Analysing the mediaportal.log file I found lot of errors about the folder......db3 database file. Deleting it the problem was gone! I thought before that the video database file is used if browsing video files as shares view!

I suggest: start MP, try to browse video files, close MP and open the log. If you see some sql error messages, identify the database and delete it -> it will be recreated.

    Hi Kszabo,

Interesting.... because my collection was fine also until it started to grow big... My problem has now gone away simply because I took the cowards route and reinstalled XP from scratch... however there are some things I have learned recently which may help you :-

    1) Did you install any new Codecs??... the reason i ask is that I had purchased a new Graphics Card and I used the Hidef AVC Playback Codec, and it was about this time that i experienced my problem... (i am not saying it is related, but something you may wish to investigate)

    2) have you got admin permissions on your Vista account?? - again something that you may wish to check

    3) have you got any mapped drives that are no longer connected?

I know re-installing Windows Xp fixed it for me, but i know this is a wee bit drastic...

    Good luck

    Regards

    Ajay

as I said this was a database problem.

@ 1) no new codecs installed
@ 2) I am admin and UAC is off
@ 3) no mapped network drives at all

    Thanx though for your reply!
