MP2 is looking more and more impressive but there is one area where it seems to fall down and I have not been able to determine what the strategy for future developement is.
At present the internal players work well for everthing except Bluray(poor) Bluray3D (not at all). The internal bluray handler is neither free (AnyDVD is required) can't handle menus and does not support/play BD3D. MP1 has the option of selecting an external bluray player such as TMT and PowerDVD via Moving Pictures, both of which can often (special offers) be found at prices of little more than or even less than AnyDVD and are also sometimes supplied bundled with hardware.
Will MP2 be going with external players and when?
Sorry if this subject has been covered elswhere but I did not find it.

The flexible player and plugin structure of MP2 should make it easy to develop a small plugin for this purpose.
Also the BluRay player that is working inside MP1 will be available soon. 3D video modes are supported (except frame packing). Unfortunately this still works only with unencrypted content...

So there are many possibilities :)

Do those posibilities include anyone working on an external player pluging plugin?
I know there is an unsupported one for MP1 (Blu-Ray / HD DVD plugin for Arcsoft player) could that be adapted?
With MP2 so seamlessly intergrating other plugins Online Video, Web Radio etc. I guess I am looking
for a future Bluray solution that will simply play any legal disc I insert. For 3D I don't believe ripping
and converting frame packing to SBS to get Bluray 3D playback in MP is a viable long term solution.

I don't know the way how it is implemented in MP1, maybe some of our @Developers know this better.
I'd like to see a plugin for this, I can give support with MP2 integration...

    Hi.

This will never happen, I fear. MP is OpenSource and the BD decryption can never be open source. MP will never get a legal licence for BD decryption. Not only because it really is expensive, not a single open source project will ever get such a licence. And we never will add illegal components to our program, so it's up to the user to do the decrypting somehow. BTW this is true for e.g. XBMC also, not only for MP...

The decryption can be done by an external player (the legal way, if the manufacturer of this external player owns a licence for BD decryption), by tools like An...D or Pa...ey (there is a freely available version of Pa...ey that does the job) or by ripping BD first (MAKE MKV out of it) and then use the not encrypted MKV instead...

    Hi.
    Another thing...
    frame packing
This only is a matter of a usable codec for this. LAVF is working on frame packing support. As soon as they are ready, MP can play frame packed videos... It's the decrypting thing that prevents us from supporting BD completely...

MP1 enables you to use an external player for Blu-Ray discs straight out of the box. MovingPictures is not required for this, and nor is this Arcsoft player plugin you mentioned. Simply configure the player for discs:

Fully accepted without question but when I have a legal player I ought to be able use it from within MP, that is my point!
Furthermore it should function as seamlessly as possible, preferably without any setup. I should only have to install the player
and MP should detect and utilise it, that can't be rocket science since that is exactly what happens with Media Center.

Unless things have changed in MP1 then this config is for DVDs and does not work for Bluray even if the chosen player fully supports BD, hence the option in Moving pictures and the plugin I mentioned. Either way this config is not available in MP2.[DOUBLEPOST=1409483693][/DOUBLEPOST]

MediaPortal is not Media Center. We don't make it our aim to copy the way it does things.

    Things have changed.

Then that would certainly do the trick although it would be much better if selection were available for different media types rather than a one for all. When can it can be implemented in MP2?
