Viewing HD TV on 1.2.0.0 not possible or ?? (2 Viewers)

Have been using Mediaportal 1.1.3 (i think) and now 1.2.0.0, with both TV-server and TV client on the same PC (Pentium 4 HT 3 GHz 2 GB RAM).
The problem I get, is after scanning the the channels in server setup, I can see all plain TV (read not HD channels), but when I try to see a HD channel, the PC blocks totally.
All this is possible on a dvb logic setup (have this running), but not in Mediaportal (witch I like better, with all it´s features).

Am I doing something wrong in the TV-server or TV-Client ????

Have set the feature in server to realtime.

Please help, what to try

Hi, i'm having same/similar issue when trying to watch a HD channel. I can launch MP and open tv guide, tune a normal tv channel fine. If i then go back to the guide and open a hd channel MP just seems to lock up. I can see a file created for timeshift, i see the ffdshow icon appear in the systemtray but the channel never appears.

I can watch HD channels using Windows Media Centre fine.

My setup is Win 7 SP1, MP 1.2.1 and TV card is BGT3620

Attached are my log files

One final point, could my TV card be the issue as its not on the MP supported list???

Hi crono771

Your E-350 CPU is not powerful enough to handle HD without the use of hardware accelerated video decoding. When you use FFDShow, the CPU has to do the decoding work - not good. I recommend you use the Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder for the h.264 video codec. That is what WMC will be using. You set this on the "TV" tab in the "codecs and renderer" section of MediaPortal configuration.

One final point, could my TV card be the issue as its not on the MP supported list???

*No*. The supported card list only contains cards with certain features (like DiSEqC or CI/CAM support) that we have to add support for individually. 99.999% of tuners with BDA drivers (which includes your BGT3620) will be supported with no problem whatsoever. There are just too many to list them individually.

Hi mm,

Spot on with the codec Can now watch HD channels with no issue. CPU stays below 60% too. One slight issue..... no sound on the HD channels....

I had a play with some of the sound codecs and seemed to break my normal channels rather than fixing HD channels so put them all back. Any thoughts? I can grab the logs if required

You have to use the DivX AAC decoder from -->here<-- for the audio to work correctly.

dont use divx codec on windows 7 it is buggy as hell. best use monogram aac.
the codecguide.com download k-light codec pack full and it will play anything thrown at it.

and btw i dont think aac decoder is used for HD Television content as these use AC3-E or more common name : Dolby Digital +

Ordinarily I would recommend Monogram too, but it won't work with Freeview HD in the UK, and they *do* use multi-channel AAC there.
