jonaskp: Nice to hear you got it running.
The plugin detects a letter box by simply analysing the center box and the upper and / or lower box.
It decides to "see" a letterbox if the outer boxes are black and the center box still has content. the credits of a movie does fulfil this quite often...
The only way to make the detection a bit more reliable (but also slower) is to increase the detection count and the detection interval. This two values define how often the plugin searches for letterboxes (detection interval) and how often is has to find the same result (detection interval) before it will react on it.

Does anyone have a solution to run the viewmodeswitcher plugin with FFDSHOW?
Because I am running Mediaportal over my Beamer (1280x720) and TV looks so ugly without FFDshow!

So please... tell me, how can I solve that problem?

    thanks..

    hello,

i have read the whole topic, as i have problems to get the plugin up and running for the old tv. sadly there was no answer for my issue so far. i managed to run the plugin 2-3 times altogether, although i have tried about 100 times now. the symptoms are pretty simple: it just won't work.

for the mentioned few times i got the message about the fallback rule being applied, but after restart of mp (p.e. for further config of the - awesome - plugin) it just don't work anymore. the last time i could make it run 1 time, by reinstalling it trough the mpinstaller.exe. i use the dscaler decoder and the old tvengine with a dvb-s card. i hope the config is right, as i have set the max values to 0.

currently i am using an svn from 02.02.2008, starting with fullscreen and starting the tv also right in fullscreen on the secondary display. it's a 2003 server os, might that be a problem? from the verbose logs of both mp and the plugin i could not figure out what's wrong. the only thing i noticed is the following line:

    2008-03-25 18:13:54.028507 [Debug][ViewModeSwitcherThread]: AR:Normal AR Calc: nem szám

where "nem szám" means "not numeric" in hungarian. anyway after that line the rules are being applied and the msgbox is shown. but for any later channel change nothing is happening. i would appreciate any help, as this is a must for every 16:9 display. i have no idea where the hungarian string comes from, it's an english os with no MUI. the only hungarian thing is the mp ui set in the mp config.

i hope there will be some light on this... anyway thans for the great job. ...i am already better on, as the dscaler codec is somewhat better itself in means of displaying different aspect ratios than the mpv codec. log and config attached.

    Hi lapa.

Your logs do look indeed a bit weird.
I did a quick fix that should avoid a calculation bug when the video sizes are reported as 0.
Normally this should not happen, but it might be an timing issue.

Please try the attached dll and report back.

    One additional thing Lapa.

I've looked at the exported settings you have posted.
Without having tested it... But these rules look wrong in some way.
i.e. you have set a the rules for having:
    MinWidth=600
    MaxWidth=0

(and the same with the height)

The min and max values for width and height must be ranges. That means if your video stream has a size of 720 pixels (look in the first post how to find yours) you have to set the min value to a lower or equal value. The max value must be equal or higher.

    hello,

thanks for the answer, i will test the new dll in the next days. it seems the plugin works for the movies correctly, it's just the tv it doesn't like. of course the setting might be wrong now, thats level 2 after getting the fallback message displayed every time :) thanks again, i will report the results soon.

    Hi lapa.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I hope to have some time this weekend to build a new MPI. So the change is available for everybody.

    Bye

    hey there,

i have a screen resolution of 1200x676... i only configured a rule for the 4:3 tv...

    AR from 1,2 to 1,4
min width 700, max width 800
min height 500, max height 600
--> Stretch, 10px overlay and Letterbox

Switching channels --> Fallback to "normal"

Works perfectly for me... Wasn't able to make a rule for 16:9... it always recognized the 16:9, but showed it in a 4:3 format.

Perhaps someone has the settings for my resolution?!
