I still get washed out colours when I have set mediaportal to use EVR, in fact there is no difference whatsoever between selecting VMR9 and EVR.

Using EVR in KMPlayer + Zoomplayer does not have washed out colours. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my HDTV but I am using WinXP SP3. Haven't tried KMPlayer/Zoomplayer yet though.

I really hope this gets fixed, I would prefer to use the internal player so that I am not losing any functionality within MP which I would when using an external player.

I now have Vista 64 Bit installed instead of XP SP3 (Radeon 3200, BE-2400). The EVR-problem within Mediaportal remains the same (I am using always the latest weekly SVN).

EVR enabled (Aero disabled) = tearing in Mediaportal within MyTV and MyVideo, flickering gui.
VMR9 enabled (Aero diabled) = no tearing, sometimes flickering gui if you scroll through the EPG.

Turning Aero on is not an option, because it reduces the Deinterlace-quality (only Weave and Bop selectable in CCC). With Aero off the deinterlace-quality is much better (motion adaptive, 4 options for deinterlace selectable in CCC).

This should be really only a software related problem, as there are programs that work without problems:

DVB-Viewer: EVR enabled (Aero diabled) = no tearing at all, no flickering, works perfect. Hardware Acceleration works too for HDTV (so it is really using EVR).

This flickering and tearing issue is very displeasing, so I beg the developers to look for this problem.

you could try the attached dll. this is my local development build. maybe it reduces tearing (i have no tearing with aero off, but then again, i own a ATI 2600XT and can afford aero ;))

The dll doesn't help/reduces tearing for me. There should be really a simple solution. As MPC Cinema and DVB Viewer proves it.

    define "simple" ;)
read something about non-realtime systems and realtime timing, reconsider your statement. switch to a realtime capable linux. (or read the MPC and DVBViewer forums).

kidding aside, there should of course be a solution to this, but this is not a priority for 1.0. We are currently messing around with the MS reference implementation, maybe i can provide a build for testing sometime this week, although i'm on a pretty tight schedule atm.

Just wondering, what could be more important than getting MP to play different formats of video nice and smooth :(

well, as MP is intended as a fullscreen standalone app, i would say using VMR9 with exclusive mode or Vista with Aero would be the way to go. Avoiding tearing without those two options can be a matter of luck (see e.g. ReClock which has a "tearing prevention fine tuning slider"), and should be considered a nice try at best.

that doesn't mean that we don't want it to work, but there is simply not enough development resources left to do the work. but everyone is welcome to give it a try, it's opensource after all.

edit: btw: have you tried turning off Cool and Quiet (in case you have an AMD) and/or giving MP a higher CPU priority (Can be set in General settings. I for one use "High").

I appreciate your work. I really want to help, but I am no coder. So I can only give hints or make bug reports.

As MPC Cinema is open-source and this application is optimized for best viewing pleasure it might be a good idea to look into its code so Mediaportal can be perfect in this area, too. It has many options for EVR, and I have a tearing-free picture with the default settings (no need for the built-in "Anti-Tearing Options"). H264-Hardware accelerations works fine, too.
