    Hi guys,

I was trying to make MediaPortal use other Visualizations than the standard "Alchemie" of Windows Media Player. I failed miserably wasting the whole weekend on this. PLEASE help me :(

I am however able to select the Visualizations from within the MediaPortal setup but when I start playing music inside MediaPortal it ALWAYS displays the standard Visualization (Alchemie). I tried this on two different PC's with completely different system and OS specifications.

You can find the logs and the Visualizations I tested attached to the post (I included the full path for the Visualizations to eliminate all doubt of an improper installation.

Mediaportal.log clearly shows that the Sonique Visulaisation has been loaded.

    Everything is ready.
You just need to play something via the BASS player.
    Which you didn't.

You played Radio, which used the WMP player.
And btw. Visualisation is not available for Radio, only for the Music module.

Play some MP3 file through MyMusic and you'll see the choisen Vis.

    Thanks for the reply,

well I didn't know that these modules use different playback modules. There is a visualization shown in Radio mode but it seems to be restricted to the WMP vis since it uses WMP for playback only like you said.

I will test this with an MP3 file when I get home.

btw: Isn't it possible to integrate BASS into the Radio plugin or perhaps play radio-streams with the regular music engine ? I just searched the forum before posting but every question on this is not answered by a Developer yet.

    Sure it is possible.
But not so easy, as the Vis is currently tied to BASS and Music only.

Ok, i had a look and found that it was not so complicated.

With the latest SVN we will use BASS also for Internet Streams, if BASS is slected as the default music player.

Are there limitations on the type of Internet Streams that BASS will handle?

If I use the default Internal DShow player, I can play .asx streams, but if I select the BASS engine, I get this error:-

2007-05-18 12:28:25.781250 [Info.][MPMain]: BASS: Initializing BASS audio engine...
2007-05-18 12:28:25.781250 [Info.][MPMain]: BASS: Using default Sound Device

    Taipan,

    this should work.
The ASX stream will most probably contain wma.
I'll need to give it a try, but i'm away from home till Sunday.
Will have a look on it, latest by Monday. Promised. :)
