The latest version of VoxCommando provides a configuration for MediaPortal that you can select when you install VoxCommando.

You also need to set up the WifiRemote plugin and make sure your settings match. See this thread for more information:

If you still need help you should post to the MediaPortal Board on the VC forum,

Wow, it works! And it works even in english though my system only understands german. OK, you need to pronounce some stuff in a german mannor but then it will understand it.
I started translating and I will post my translation here once I am done so that you can spread it with voxcommando. More people need to know that this works. Is there an entry in MP's wiki so far?

Only thing that is annoying is that I only have a headset. Did anyone manage to get a microphone array to work so that you can give commands from (almost) anywhere in the room?

Thanks. I'm glad it's performing well for you. :)

There is no entry in the MP wiki that I know of. It would be nice if someone could put something up. I don't really have the time at the moment.

There is a wiki on the VoxCommando site all about microphones: http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Microphones

You can use an array microphone, but it will still pick up undesirable sounds. Also, most "good" array microphones are quite expensive. You can get most any sensitive microphone (array, boundary, or other) to work well by using an "intercom button" approach. Press a button on your remote that will tell VoxCommando to reduce your system volume, and start listening to commands. It does not work for screaming kids, or barking dogs, unfortunately.

Another option that works extremely well is VoxWav for Android. I would recommend that you try this if you already have an Android phone or tablet. There is a free and a pro version. Both are in the early stages of development but work extremely well. They can be a bit of a pain to set up though, at this point. If you are comfortable with network shares and samba it is actually quite easy. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=voxwav

My favourite solution though, if you have a budget for it is the Amulet remote (just over $100 but hard to get outside the U.S.). I still prefer to have a remote handy for all those repetitive tasks like arrow keys, pause/play and volume. It can be tiresome to try to do this with voice commands. the amulet is nice because it works like a Windows Media Center remote but when you tilt it up it turns on a wireless microphone and tells VoxCommando to listen.

About language. The ideal setup if you are not using English is usually to use the English speech engine anyway, since most media (songs, Movies etc) is titled in English, or performed by English named bands. You can then still use other languages that will be interpreted by the English engine. In some cases you need to spell your non-english commands phonetically. This is basically the opposite of what you are doing now. Unfortunately it is not currently possible to use multiple languages engines simultaneously. Certain versions of Windows (like "ultimate") allow you to download additional languages very easily using windows update. Even if you don't have one of these version of Windows, it is still possible to install other languages but it takes a bit more work...

Has anyone ever asked acoustic magic if they would give one of their arrays for teting reasons? Those microphones should be capable of what I am looking for.

I don't know but I do know that others have tested it with speech recognition for dictation (e.g. Dragon Naturally Speaking) and they said you still needed a fairly quiet environment, and/or you needed to sit relatively close to the mic. Trust me, we have been experimenting with microphones for years now, we have only found good results when your mouth is close to the microphone. That said, it is possible with an array mic, but probably not what you are hoping for in terms of reliability. Here's an example of someone using the Kinect, and it works OK, but even with music on relatively low it doesn't work as well
