You can watch/record multiple tv/radio channels at the same time with just 1 (DVB/ATSC) tv card. Offcourse those channels should be located on the same transponder and are free-to-air (not encrypted)

"Located on the same transonder" I thought this would just mean the same frequency. Is there someting else that defines a transponder within a frequency? I.e. Can you have 2 different transponders on the same freq?

Here's what I've got:

TV1
  • Freq:11783000
  • NetworkID:47
  • Transport ID:22
  • ServiceID:1035
  • Symbolrate:22500
  • Pol:H

TV2
  • Freq:11783000
  • NetworkID:47
  • Transport ID:22
  • ServiceID:1036
  • Symbolrate:22500
  • Pol:H

Test 2-DWTV
  • Freq:11783000
  • NetworkID:47
  • Transport ID:22
  • ServiceID:1902
  • Symbolrate:22500
  • Pol:H

When I try to watch/record TV1 and TV2 Everything is cool.
When I try to watch/record TV1/TV2 and "Test 2-DWTV" I get a "no free card" error; see log snip:

Code:
9/02/2007 9:30:34 p.m. Controller: StartTimeShifting failed:AllCardsBusy
9/02/2007 9:32:18 p.m. Controller: StartTimeShifting Test 2-DWTV 79

9/02/2007 9:32:18 p.m. Controller: got 1 tuning details for Test 2-DWTV
9/02/2007 9:32:18 p.m. Controller: card:1 type:DvbS is tuned to different transponder

Transponder is the combination of Frequency & Polarization. So your 3 Channels should all work together (to my limited knowledge).

Maybe one of the devs could have a scan (Our Gentlehobbit?)

for DVB-S 2 channels are the same when the following applies:

    1. frequencies are the same AND
    2. polarisation is the same AND
    3. modulation type is the same AND
    4. same LNB is used AND
    5. the two channels are on the same satellite

I'm not really sure what modulation is but all the rest are the same! How would I confirm tha tmodulation is same across all these channels, or can I assume that it's not the same; hence the problem Or is this a bug misconfigutation?

Well.... While I was busy dumping the contens of my dbo.tuningdetails table to prove that all my channels were on same transponder I noticed the column for modulation was differerent for 2 of the channels TV1 and TV2 (the ones causing the problem!) All the other channels had "-1" in the modulation field; TV1 and TV2 had "20" I changed these to "-1" and everything worked fine. It's strange since within TVServer it showed that modulation for ALL these channels as being "QPSK" what ever that is!? I'm just wondering how it came to be different in the DB?? What might have caused this is? it a bug? or just something unique to me? Thanks Frodo, you got me thinking and on the right track! :D

Will what work? Multiple channels from one card? I think so. I've never had any experience with DVB-T cards and "transponder" is usualy a satellite term I think, but I expect that it works exactly the same. That is, a single frequency probbaly carries many channels(MPEG2 Streams) multiplexed togehter. Check the tuning details for your DVB-T channels and if you can confirm that 2 channels have the the same frequency, then try to watch 1 while recording the other. :)
