Hi there
Im having REAL difficulty here trying to get the TVServer on my main PC in the living room to send the TV signal to my client PC in the bedroom.

I keep getting UNABLE TO PLAY STREAM 2.0

I have tried everything, fresh install, creating a DMZ on my router, going through every entry in the advanced section of the Windows firewall for Mediaportal, TVserver etc

The only thing that works is to disable the Windows firewall on the server machine, then it works perfectly.

The only other time it worked is when I did a fresh install but as soon as I rebooted it went back to being blocked.

This is driving me mad and something here is really not right.

Im not sure how to make a log either so if having one would help then please how do I make one?

Thanks

Is the computer member of a domain? If so group policy may have defined settings for the firewall and these settings will override your manual settings.
Some antivirus/antispyware can control the windows firewall and reset it.
I've had simular issues and they have been on the mepo client, start mepo in window mode (not full screen) and then I could see the firewall warning...
Hope something of this helps :)

    Hi,

Make sure SQL or MySql has firewall access also.

Ok, firstly, my computer is not part of a domain, its part of a workgroup....

Would resetting my widows firewall to default settings help at all?
Would all my programs ask for permission again or would I be screwed?

Ok I think Ive fixed it now, I say "think" because Im not exactly sure how or what I did to be honest.
All I know is I went into the firewall settings and had a really deep fiddle with the settings, did a few reboots and it seems to be working ok for now. There was something about which programs the rule needs to be associated with and it was set to something specific, I changed this to all programs.
Sorry I cant be more specific because I know people read through these posts looking for help.

Ok, well everything was working great for a day or two but now its back to "Unable to play: Stream2.1"

So it looks like something is resetting or interfearing with my firewall.

Im getting sick of it to be honest, one of the main reasons I switched from WMC7 to MP was for the TVserver.

    NOT IMPRESSED!!

AW: Re: What is up with my Windows 7 firewall!!!

Did you define any rules in firewall for adding the tv-server to the "trusted" adresses (i dont know if this is possible in Win7 as i use xp) ?
With many hardware/software firewalls a frequently network-problem is the miss of the local adress of the network-router in the "trusted" zone.
This can lead to such problems after a restart of the pc or of the router.

OK, so I have been using DHCP to assign IP addresses to all my computers on my network.
So I changed the TVserver and the client machines to have static IP addresses and now its back working again, even after several resets.

I guess this is probably what the issue was all along.... I will keep you posted....
