However, where is MP ultimately headed? It this a "Me Too" type product or something truely unique? What I mean by this is it seems, at least to me, to be a sort of a "MCE" biased product. It even looks and functions like MCE to some extent.

I think the unique thing compared to MCE is that it is for free and opensource, so you can ad on nearly everything you want! Also it is much more customizable (and supports lots of different hardware) and there are tons of great plugins for everyone and everything.

So it is (or will be) kind of an improved MCE for free 8) .

Thanks for the tip, mPod. I will try that out.

I realize anything below XP is not supported, but I appreciate your response and helpfulness. I am trying to evaluate my options for a media center using software and equipment that I already have before committing a bunch of money to this project. I think MP is shaping up to be the one I choose.

Does it have to be SP2?

I'm getting the equipment together for a dedicated HTPC, but I've already bought the Hauppauge PVR 150MCE bundle & am itching to try it in my existing computer, but I don't have SP2 installed & since it's running perfectly, I don't want to mess with it too much. Is SP2 a neccessity?

In a perfect world MP would run on Linux, then we would have a free software environment; Officexp = Openoffice, Windows = Linux, MCE = MP. + we have of course GIMP, firefox, thunderbird etc. etc.

    Open Source rocks
