Sorry about the vague title. Don't know how else to summarize this.

I've been using MediaPortal for some time now - at least a year. Over the past few months, and more frequently as time passes, something strange has been going on.

I use MP exclusively to watch pre-recorded TV. If I'm interrupted and have to stop the show, when I start it back up, it remembers where I left off and asks if I want to continue from there.

Where is this information stored, about the last location of each tv show, or movie?

I give each show the same name every week (e.g., this week's episode of "Better Off Ted" will be named "Better Off Ted.avi"). I'll watch it and delete it and then name next week's episode exactly the same. But somehow MediaPortal realizes it's a different show and doesn't mark it as seen.

However, sometimes new shows that I put into place are being marked as seen.

Also, I'm often unable to delete a file. This problem comes and goes. If I'm unable to delete one file, I'm unable to delete any until the problem goes away.

This is why I'd like to know where this information is kept, because I was wondering if it's built up a huge backlog of data that should be cleared.

I hope I haven't been too obtuse describing this.

Are you just using the standard MP My Videos for watching your TV Shows/Movies or are you using the well known plugins (My TV Series and Moving Pictures)?

I'm using a pretty standard setup right out of the box. The only tweaking I've done is to get the remote working. Are these plugins something I should check out?

Oh, one thing that I forgot to mention. I have my HTPC attached to the TV, but I store the actual shows on the PC in my office. So when the HTPC is playing videos, it's pulling them off the networked drive.

Hello Enchant,

If you want to get the best out of MP then yes check out the My TV Series and Moving Pictures plug-ins they are great plug-ins that give your HTPC more jazz (was well as functionality).

If you using the standard MP setup (you go through the My Videos menu option on your man MP menu) then you will be using the VideoDatabase, take a look at the document UserGuides/ViewingDatabases - MediaPortal Manual Documentation which gives you information on how to modify the database records.

In relation to being unable to delete a file, if you are talking about the video files, maybe MediaPortal is holding a lock on them?

Thanks - I'll definitely check out those plugins.

As far as the deleting problem goes, it's intermittent, and I can't figure relate the changes to anything. I won't be able to delete a show that I watch at lunch. Then at dinner time, suddenly it deletes without any problem. Bizarre.

I have the delete issues sometimes as well, I think that windows locks these files as it is trying to get some thumbnails of it, to show in the folders (although I have the folderview set to list.

If I open a folder with videos I sometimes see the ffdshow icon popup in the system tray.

A solution could be to rename the file to somethng like canbedeleted.junk (That is possible on an open file) so you can start writing the new file, and after a while delete the *.junk files
