    Hi,

i've upgraded from cable to sat and as i do now have a lot of HD channels i would like to know which h264 codec you're using.

I've SAF 5 unlocked installed and tried the PowerDVD 10 codec but when you get a discontinue in the stream the pictures starts jumping (old picture, new picture, old picture, new picture, ...) you can only recover by skipping +/- 15s.

Then i tried the Win 7 MS-DTV codec which works fine on discontinues but when you start livetv or skip i get a heavy flicker for 2-4s with picture, black image, picture, black image, ...

    GC: HD5450 + Cat 11.1a

    Hi.

Sometimes it's pain in .... To get it to work.
I'm using powerdvd 10 also ms codecs are fine.. Im on old nvidia 8400gs. I dont have full hd tv so im only 1280,720. Allthough ive tested it in full hd and it is okay too.

If you have not checked allready, I suggest to look ccc and disable all "enachements" like inverse telecine, contrast boost, noise reduction, etc. And let video reach tv without modifications by the driver. I have no probs with powerdvd h264 codec even when there is discontinues.

What else. I keep windows temp folders, timeshifting files, pagefile all in separate hdd's.

    Br,

    Hi there,

Surely the "jumping around" isn't down to the graphics card, its down the MePo and the buffer file/placement/TVserver??

don't think so as it starts after a discontinue and doesn't stop until skip. It does NOT happen with Win7 MS-DTV Codec.

The Win7 MS-DTV codec is known to have problems with AMD cards unfortunately. You could try the CoreAVC code, I know it's rendered by the CPU which defies the point but until AMD/MS fix the codec problem your kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place...

I had the same issue with picture breaking-up and jumping around after a discontinued packet, after trying out all the codecs available to me (Win XP). I went with CoreAVC for live HD TV, seems to handle discontinued packets and bad signal really well. For Blu-Ray and such I went with PDVD.

thanks - at least at the moment i don't want to dive up DXVA so i'll wait for coreavc to support DXVA at least in their twitter account they told that they are in the beta phase.

Ah great news about the DXVA. Wonder if it will work with my card/machine, that would be great!

Upsetting to hear that your Win 7 with the MS codecs cant handle the HD channels - I was very close to upgrading to Win 7 just for this!
