Which Intel NUC powerful enough for Mediaportal ? NUC Users, please share your thoughts (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I'm looking for something really small to use Mediaportal with.

Are there any NUC Users here who use it with Mediaportal,
which model are U using ( Intel, Gigabyte, ... ),
how much memory is in it ( 8gb, 16gb ? )
and what is your experience with it when using Mediaportal.

- Is it fast enough to playback all 1080p x264 mkv video ?
- Any screen tearing issues when connected to 4k TV through hdmi ?

It might also be useful to know:

- How loud is the fan?
(small case > small fan > spins fast > much noise)

Indeed that's a goid point to concider,
but my main concern is
if it's powerful enough to run Mediaportal without any problem.
Especially screen tearing and stuttering.

It will depend on the cpu (i7 or i5 ? )
and if the (iris or other) gpu is powerful enough I think.

There's lots of talk about these NUC's,
but I can't seem to find many thread's about NUC's with MP.

So hopefully there exist NUC users in here.

It's not an Intel NUC, but to give you an idea of performance, I run a single-seat MP1 system on an HP 260G1 mini PC:

Used with 2 x USB DVB-T2/T tuners.

This system plays up to 4k H.264 video (at 25/30 fps, to my 1080p display - it would probably struggle with a 4k display) and 1080p at 50/60 fps easily/smoothly.
It doesn't have hardware HEVC decode capability, so only low-res HEVC is possible. Some/most modern Intel GPUs have hardware HEVC decode capability.

I am using one of these:-

It is 1/8 the size of my previous media centre and works well for me connected to a 4K TV.

With 2 x hauppauge dual tuner USB sticks, 1 x Kaiser bass dig radio TV USB stick and an 6TB disk drive with a single partition, (I should be using a NAS for storage).
I use the inbuilt WiFi as a network connection and the Bluetooth for mouse and keybaord. It plays ripped blu ray ISO disks without a problem when mounted with Windows file explorer. HD TV looks great.

I have Intel NUCs DC32171YE which are only i3, 8gb RAM and 240GB SSDs, they work perfectly for 1080p x264 and x265 no tearing. No issues with fan noise, I think from memory I set them to be a constant spin rate which you don't notice.

I have just got a NUC6I5SYH with 16gig of ram a 500gig Samsung M.2 drive and a 500gig Seagate HDD for the main bedroom so my wife can watch her sappy shows

Yes it might be a bit overkill but I can honestly say its a quite as a mouse even after having my sick son watching MP all day while I was at work.

MP runs perfectly.

I don't regret my purchase.

What operating system do you have installed ? Windows 7 or 10 ?

If it is Windows 7, did you experience any troubles while installing ?
I've read that in order to install Windows 7, you first have to include usb 3.0 drivers in the installation image, because otherwise you can't use the mouse and keyboard during the installation.
