Which satellites for UK/English language viewing (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

This just a query and not a problem.

Under the TV Server Satellite tuning, there is the option for scanning up to four satellites - I use two of these options. I have a fixed dish that was once used for Sky so that would limit my tuning options on what I can receive, however I do need to ask:-

What are the most popular satellites for English language programs/ UK viewing?

Hi there,

You have to look at where your dish points (and what it can see in its range)- as this will determine what satellites - unless you are willing to move your dish, or fit a twin LNB, or make it motorised, or have another dish. Also, the sky dish might be too "small" to pick up some signals

I think here for the UK you have the Astra, HotBird, Eurobird as the main, but there is the Intelsat, EutelSat, AMOS (I'm not sure about these last three)

Cheers Jay. I have a quad LNB, (only use 2 lnb's as I have dual tuner sat card) and as I said earlier the dish is static and is still pointing in the position it was when I used to use Sky.

Hi

If it was a Sky dish it will be pointing 28.2 degrees East. This will pick up Astra 2A/2B/2D and Eurobird 1 (at 28.5 degrees East). Astra 2D contains mostly Free to Air channels (such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five) and a number more (as it is deemed to have a UK footprint although in reality it is much wider). If you are using the Freesat EPG this is broadcast from Eurobird 1. It will find all the Sky channels but or course these are encrypted.

How wide could I go?? Apart from the 28.2E ones, are their others which may be of use?

I have never really played about with it - if it ain't broke etc, etc. Just curious really.

Hi there,

What you have is a single LNB with quad output, this will be (as mew has said), aimed at 28.2E Astra (standard Sky)

You can get dual LNBs (two separate LNBs - also called monobloc LNB) where there is a set degree difference between them (eg you could set one LNB to point at Astra at 19.2'E and the other would fall in line with Hotbird at 13'E - 6 degree difference), then you use a swith (if its monobloc) to switch between them.
