Lets say I'm watching a show between 8 and 9. I've got a recording coming up at 9 to 10. At 8:30, I decide to make some tea and a sandwich and pauses live Tv for 10 mins. When i then resume my show to watch the remaining 30 minutes, I can only watch 20 minutes of it until the recording starts because it stops and deletes my timeshift buffer, even if I still have the remaining 10 minutes in the file.

    Why is it so?

If you only have one tuner and your recording is on another transponder (are we talking DVB-T/C/S here?) TV-Server needs to kill the timeshift-tuning in order to tune and start recording. Is this on encrypted channels?

    We need more details :)

Yes, lets say it's on a different transponder and encrypted with a single tuner setup.

What I'm after here is that I'm 10 minutes behind "live point" in my tsbuffer file. A recording is about to start and needs the tuner, it stops timeshift and records the new show, which is completely correct, but why delete the files in my timeshift folder while I'm watching them. They are already "recorded" as a timeshift file, decrypted and everything. TvServer just need to stop adding data to them and let me watch the last 10 minutes of my show and then delete them.

Hope I made it a bit more clearly :)

Yes you did, and I can't think of a valid reason to as why this would happen. Perhaps you can make a bugreport, so that we can have this filed as a bug. Well, bug is a big word to use, but it is definitely not the way you would expect things to work :)

yes this happens if the show u have scheduled to record is on another channel from the one u have "paused"

a message appears on the screen.. "the tv card is being used on another channel" or something like that and the stream is lost

    Similar problem - timeshift dumped

Similar problem: I watch a Film and after 10 Minutes I decide to record it completely. Push "rec", MP asks: record current program or untill manual stop. Say current program. But the recorded program will be stored only from LivePoint, not the rest from Timeshift.

This behaviour cold be changed also... Maybe 3 options should be shown:
    1. manual record (from livepoint untill manual stop)
    2. record untill current program ends
    3. record current program completely (from timeshift start untill program ends)

I could imagine though that this would be a bit too much for the HD (copy Timeshift into recorded file, simultaneously recording live)

Oh dear, I hope this has been fixed. Any word?

Sorry it hasn't, it was only brought to attention very recently. A proper bug report needs to be filed before it will be looked at.

These are all features the Tivo has and features that I thought MP would at least match.

Especially since on the homepage it reads "Watch, schedule and record live TV - like a TiVo, but more, and for free!"

Should read, but less, at least in terms of dvr functionality for sure. I've made quite an investment in this HTPC and a week now tinkering with MP. I got my tv card yesterday and today is the day I realize how great Tivo really was.

    --------------

Edit: If some devs simply sat down with a Tivo for awhile and matched it functionality wise we would have a wonderful piece of dvr software. (May even be able to simplify a few things, especially in the timebuffer area.) I'm going to start making a list of missing functionality and submit what I can to bug tracker. (some really are so bad as to be called bugs)

    :sigh:

If only I knew how to code... What's MP written in?
