It could be - if the audio is having problems it can affect the video since the audio renderer provides the 'presentation clock' for the filter graph.

How long are the interruptions ?

Does it happen with other video files i.e. not live TV or recordings ?

Short interruptions, less than a second. Played some H.264 videos AVI/MKV showing the same problem.

..which means (on the standard settings) MP is using LAV Splitter, LAV Audio Decoder and the audio renderer you have selected (probably Default DirectSound renderer). MP doesn't touch the audio path, just builds the filter graph and tells it to play/pause/stop. The video is routed through MP (after the video decoder) to allow the GUI to be rendered on top of the video when necessary.

Have you tried playing the files with MPC-HC (which uses LAV by default as it's built-in filters) ?

Today I can reproduce the issue with PowerDVD and Films & TV.
Have not tried MPC-HC but I'll assume it would have the same problem.
Sounds like a system issue then rather than MP specific.
Might have to switch back to Windows 7 then.

Turning on and off Dolby encoding in Sound Blaster Pro Studio fixed the issue.
Creative clearly have a nasty bug in there. At least it seems I have a workaround that does not involve rebooting.
