    Hia all,

So, decided to setup a new client instance and getting fed-up with the tonne of bloatware and cr*p that comes with Win10/11 these days decided to do it with Win-7. I have an old RTM licence for W7 Ultimate so installed that. Along with SP1, 2016 rollup (aka SP2) and .NET 4.7. All good.

Downloaded latest MP1 and installed (Note. The Offline downloader doesnt download the LAV filters, so install from downloaded stuff falls over as it cant find the LAV filters - not a huge issue as I would just install LAV afterwards - which I did).

Left the below in incase anyone wants a laugh. I didnt have the graphics drivers installed - standard out-the-box MS VGA. No wonder it crashed SharpDX was talking to stuff that wasn't there!!

    However... I actually cant even run the MP1 Config. Comes up with a crash error;
    Capture.PNG
    Capture1.PNG

Fair play if yoo's dont want to support W7 anymore; was really just me giving it a go (actually, I'm moving away from MS altogether now and going Linux/Debian route - MS stuff seems to be getting full of cr*p; but thats another whinge lol).

I may try some older MP versions to see if they work with W7, but thought I'd let yoo's know :)

Hmmm. Not sure an older version is possible! lol

Tried 1.10.0 (randomly). Got the good old error "No internet connection" during install (got same with latest, which is why i went for offline). However, just tried doinbg offline 1.10.0 on this (W10) machine and got the same "No internet connection" error!! o_O There is no <=IE11 on W10 and so cant try messing with connection stuff (and anyway, trying that on the W7 machine - Firewall off, no AV and IE set to detect/no proxy etc - didnt work).

No need for older version as latest is fine with Win7. However, do note that older versions cant be installed as it doesn't seem to like the download locations xml (or cant find it)....

MP version 1.34 was tested quite extensively with Win 7 and from memory I believe the x86 version could be installed and runs OK, although it may be necessary to use an old version of MySQL (5.6) as newer versions and MariaDB may no longer support x86. @CyberSimian can maybe give us an update on the current situation re. Win 7 and MP x86 and x64 support.

I used the 32-bit version of MP on 32-bit Windows 7 for releases up to MP 1.31, performing an upgrade install for each successive release.

I skipped MP 1.32 as it has some difficulties, due to being a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit.

I then installed 64-bit Windows 7 and performed a first-time install of 64-bit MP 1.33, which I am still running today. I don't have any problems with this, but I should point out that I use only the plugins that are included with the base distribution -- I don't use any optional plugins (which may not be available in 64-bit versions).

When installing or upgrading MP, I always have the internet connected. From your post I get the impression that you downloaded the needed components, and then tried to install MP with the internet not connected. Others have tried this in the recent past, and found that it does not work. That does not mean that it cannot be made to work, if you can diagnose the problems and identify how to fix them. But the simple solution is to install MP with the internet connected.

I have not tested MP 1.34 on Windows 7, so there may be problems with a first-time install of MP 1.34. But I think that if you have a working MP 1.33 on Windows 7, you should be able to perform an upgrade install from MP 1.33 to MP 1.34 (provided that you have the internet connected).

Hmm, thanks guys. May give it another bash. @CyberSimiam, reason for offline installs was because when trying with Internet connected was getting "No internet connection".

    Its a100% vanilla W7 btw..

[Totally off-topic (so can be ignored!!), do you know if there is a (stable) Titan skin for MP2? I had a dabble with MP2 a couple of weeks ago, but got shouted at by family that they wanted their 'old TV back!' as they are used to Titan and dont want to change lol]

Don't think so, I have to confess the MP2 skins can take some getting used to!o_O
Personally I prefer the MCE (?) one which emulates Windows Media Centre but then I was a former user. These days I use DWHD with MP 1 (love the carousel option) and only have the occaisional dabble with MP2.;)

    As Winston Churchill said:
Networking is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

I have never encountered the situation where Windows can access the internet but the MP installer cannot. I have encountered the situation where Windows can access my home network but cannot access the internet. I think that this is caused by my home network being treated as "public", which causes Windows to impose much more restrictive firewall rules. I usually define my home network as "work", which allows applications running on my system (e.g. Firefox, MP) to access the internet.

Another possible cause is if Windows cannot identify what network it is connected to. Windows identifies the network by looking for the IP address of the gateway device defined in the connection-properties dialogue. If Windows cannot find the gateway device on your home network, Windows does not know what network it is connected to, and so will treat the network as "public". Solution? Make sure that your gateway device is powered up and has the correct configuration.

    Hello,
    Imagine this case :
You download all needed parts for MP install.
You put it on USB Key.
You have to install MP in another PC where there is no internet connexion (somewhere in holiday for exemple).
Then, install should not ask for internet connexion if it is case and all files are available.

Agreed. But there seems to be some sort of bug in the installer (earlier this year someone else could not get an offline install to work).
