As I said above: It is a current MediaPortal flaw when running under Win 8 - which you do. Can't tell you when this was introduced but I just checked the Wiki and this bug has already found its way into the explanations.

So you will unfortunately need to live with it for the moment.

Thanks for your help and time, then I have to stay with the windows volume mixer mode (because changing master volume is not an option)

It definitly worked once ( I have a backup folder from mai 27 2013) maybe it will once again.
I d'like to reinstall my pc in a few weeks - I'll give you a feedback if desired.

    this thread is done

I have read the MSDN Blog post but I don't get the link to my problem. If I like to change the volume in media portal it has "focus" or "is in the foreground". Also in the submited video mepo had focus while changing volume.
In the meantime I looked at the behavior of vlc and winamp. They use an internal volume control and don't affect the windows settings at all. This has one big advantage, it is also possible to gain up volume. In my experience Video/TV playback is quieter than youtube or games. In my eyes this looks like a feature request .

My user scenario is like this: I'm watch tv. A commercial break comes. I lower the volume of mepo. Open a browser and watch some youtube vids. After the commercials I stop youtube playback and switch back to mepo. I increase the volume of mepo again.

If it is only to not hear the ads during your video breaks, consider to simply mute MePo (I believe that's an M on the keyboard).[DOUBLEPOST=1413916573][/DOUBLEPOST]Ah no, muting under Win 8 hasd the same issue as the volume control :(

Or install OnlineVideos plugin and use MP to watch YouTube and switch back to TV when you're done ;)

I guess that he wants to have an eye on the MePo window where TV keeps playing to see when the commercials are over. He would not be able to do this with OnlineVideos. Not quite the standard for a HTPC ;)

yea thats true, atm I don't own a seperate htpc. It's all running on my gaming pc.I got a receiver connected to the graka hdmi out and a tv connected to the receiver as second monitor. And MePo runs flawless with any game simultaneously.
The only thing which could improve my laziness or comfort is the possibility to switch channels and tune volume without switching the task to MePo (or Volume Mixer :p ). Maybe I can do that with eventghost, didn't try so far.

Do I think I abuse MePo?

No definitly not. It's for entertainment as games are. Even Steam can be configured to switch primary monitor with entering "big picture mode" (controller optimized interface). Feels like a gaming console with true full hd :D. - Anyway

And your right, it would be an excellent feature to have a full screen tv overlay browser integrated like teletext to access hbb content or watching youtube during commercial break with adjusted sound. :) maybe in MePo 2?

But for sure you guys made an awesome piece of software.

If i'm follow correctly, under win8 we need to move all slider because we can't catch the new implemented volume under win8/8.1 from MP.
The change was done otherwise mute button will not work etc. (in fact before the change volume was corrected the command was send twice or more and then volume was totally broken under MP, the was visible if user mute or do up/down volume).

So until there is a rework to use some Win8 sound API (that we didn't succeed to implement on MP) volume behaviour will not be changed because it's better to have a correct up/down and mute volume working but yes all slider will be in use.
