I have the Hauppauge PVR USB2, it is a HW-encoder which is a small black box with connections on the front and on the back, it is connected by USB/USB2 to the computer and it has its own power source.
I've had some trouble using it with MP but I have to look into that... it used to work fine. Maybe a little bit slow when changing channels, but I think that's commonplace.
But I bought it 1 year ago, and I think there are now better products out there, I would recommend one that has both analogic and digital TV (HW encoder of course)
I currently have two Quatros running, one connect, one duo using OTA antennae, mostly UHF fringe area, mostly cat5 local network.
Hauppauge card retired long ago. I have also retired very early SD units, the Quatros seem to work much better than the older units.
