Re: WorldWeather plugin v0.2.5 for MediaPortal v1.2.0 or higher

I think both Mediaportal and Wunderground would benefit from this if it happens. Wunderground would get their logo and company description on Sponsor page, MEDIAPORTAL - Sponsors: Meet Our Partners. And Mediaportal would get on their download page like Roku, Weather Downloads : Weather Underground. If someone is looking on the Wunderground download page they would see Mediaportal as a software that uses Wunderground for it's weather thus giving MP another way to promote itself.

As for the logo on the home screen, could probably get away with just the "(C) Wunderground.com" like on the Windows Gadget. Although I don't see it on the OSX gadget (image is kinda blurry though). And it looks like we could also get away with an all white icon on the weather page instead of the rainbow. Either way I don't see what all the fuss is about, you want weather right? Having Wunderground's label wherever weather is shown is better than not having any at all. And if they become a partner they wouldn't be yanking their service out of the blue like TWC. And it's better than the Weather2 option. They wanted the icon, plus it be hyper linked back to their site. That would be a pain to implement.

Plus look at the Radar, Satellite, and Cam feature they all have, that definitely would be cool:D

It would definitely very nice to have Wunderground as weather option! =)

    Hi.
ATM I'm quite happy with Google weather. Works like a charm here...
I definitely don't want a "Sponsored by...." on Home screen. On Plugin page this is OK, but not on every screen using common.time.xml. Sure I did know how to get rid of, but that's not the way it should be...

I do not have a problem having logo on weather page neither, but seeing the terms and conditions, I do not think wunderground would like us displaying weather on homescreen without logo, and as thats mainly what I look at, very rarely go into the weather plugin itself.

TBH I find this disussion a bit useless...
IMHO Google and future Yahoo weather is more than enough - especially Yahoo weather covers nearly all cities which do have a weather station (even smaller cities, tested on iPhone).
And even now you can scrape your satellite images from every website you want (even from Weatherunderground - just enter the correct image parameters and you are ready to go).
MP must not cope with restrictions like "offered" by Weatherunderground.
    Just my 2 cents ;)

Hi, i think MP need to consider atlist one good weather sopplyer, if is partner will be better , even now the weather work with google, or next with yahoo , what will be in futur ? if this 2 will dicide to cancle there free service like TWC did ... ? we need look to futre not just now .... Notting is free in this world except MP ... :) and if Wunderground weilling to do it way not , we can get balnce wich place show logo wich place not ....

for exsample can show there logo in splashscreen and weather page no have to show at home ....

but for sure better for MP a partner weather sopplyer , for all time use and not if any of the free one will change there polcy of the free api ..... i'm talking abut THE Main weather plugin .....

    :)

How about showing their logo like they want IF the user chooses to use their info and have a couple of options in the plugin's setup:

    * Wunderground (list of available options | Note: Wunderground demands showing their logo on all weather related screens)
    * Google (list of available options | Note: No logo is displayed for a cleaner, sleeker look)
    * Etc

Re: WorldWeather plugin v0.2.5 for MediaPortal v1.2.0 or higher

Actually I think Wunderground would be part of the built-in or a stand alone plug-in made by Micropolis or someone else. If MP goes the same direction XBMC has Brief Weather Bulletin | XBMC, the weather will no longer be built in but designed to work with weather plug-ins that will be made. That way "WU" could promote the plug in any way they want. And MP users could decide what they want to use "WU" or "WW plugin" or any other weather plug in that may come down the pipes.

This plug-in certainly seems to work great especially in the early (rough) testing phase. Only problem is Google and Yahoo may not be options down the road. Google is considered the secret weather .api that could disappear at any time. And yahoo has no technical support other than their own products, webpage, widgets, and 2 day rss feed. I checked, they said they do not support this kind of service.

By the way has there been any development on the skins for Avalon and StreamedMP?

Can I say, any weather plugin in the future to be supplied on first installation with MP, needs to be open source, which currently none of the 3 available ones are :(

Also one of the pre-requisites is to be able to use multiple scripts for the different weather information suppliers, which users can easily add too, looks like Micropolis is heading that way.

From MP1.2.2 the weather settings and plugin will be hidden and disabled, just to save any confusion, but we really do need a good worldwide replacement, everyone agrees on that.

At the risk of sounding like a cracked record... Can anyone give an update as to where we are at with updating the current inbult weather application?
