Hello Harley !
Im pretty new on using mediaportal, i have been using MP for about one year now and i think it´s the bestHTPC Software out there. I realy like this skin, it is the best there is, and i realy want to use it with the reflection i the"film strip" view, however the reflection on my MP is inside the dvd cover and the top is empty. Can you help me get the dvd box "Full" and the reflection below the DVD box. I have the same problem with the CD covers. Please help me!

You need 0.2.3.0 RC2 installed with a new svn, if you have any skin related files in the CACHED folder, these need to be deleted before you get the new look.

Is there a quick way for the user to change where the skin starts? Say, My Videos instead of My TV? Thanks for all the great work.

i have overworked the iconview and bigiconview, because i think the current one does not realy fit to the style of the other views.
So i have do now complete new gfx for that. Hope you like it.

PS: ..are the last pages here skin related ? Or is it more something for the mytv series plugin ?
If it is skin related, i will help if i can.

Its realy hard to find out here the post´s that are related for the skinwork.

I actually think it is skin-engine related (and not "all about the tv-series plugin" - its just that it was there that it was discovered), not specific to this skin but the "bug" (I'm still a bit reluctant to declare it as such) has popped up while working with x-face.

Harley, have you ever been able to create a thumbnailpanel with more rows than columns? Could you try (maybe we're all doing something wrong)?

A question on hi-res artwork

I've rummaged through this thread to see if my problem's already been reported. The good news is it has, and been fixed, the bad news is it hasn't worked for me!

I'm experiencing the 'poor quality dvd art' issue in the filmstrip view (Title). This has been discussed before on P.41-43 and others on this thread- https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/xface_skin_version_1_1_ready_download-t26565p41.html and fixed on P.45 - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/xface_skin_version_1_1_ready_download-t26565p45.html

But I've started from a 100% clean slate. Uninstalled MP, deleted MP directory, re-installed RC2, installed 10/10/2007 SVN THEN configured it and copied a freshly unzipped copy of Xface into the skin directory.

The dvd art is still the low quality version. I've proved this by renaming the hi-res [Filmtitle]L.jpg to the low-res [Filmtitle].jpg and suddenly the hi-res art is displayed.

So the question is, why is it happening, and what line of code in which xml file determines whether MP goes and fetches the thumbnail or the full-quality hi-res version.

If it's just me with the problem, I'll happily adjust it just for me, as long as I know where to look!

I've attached a couple of screenshots to show what I mean- one is 'video details' and the other filmstrip, but this highlights the issue more- I can see the hi-res version without leaving MP. Also, I realise the filmstrip is physically bigger, but this isn't the issue, and that the screen isn't at 16:9, but I tested at the correct AR and the issue was still present.

Other than that, an extremely classy skin, great work Harley!

I dont think your problem has to do anything with the skin, or any skin.
It has to be a problem with the current SVN's.

I never even knew this was a problem, as I always manually download the covers I want for movies.
Sometimes IMDB scan finds very ugly covers, and then I need to go in to manually delete them...

If you dont know how to do this, its simple: find the coverart and rename it to folder.jpg if you have movies in folders.
If you have all movies in one folder, rename the coverart to the filename it represents. feks: Die Hard.cd1.jpg

I have problem with this skin (v1.1). 2CDs movies with names "xxxx-cd1.avi" and "xxxx-cd2.avi" can't play without mouse. With my remote control (Microsoft) can't chose picture CD - i must use mouse. Default skin (BlueWide) is functional.

But the way i see it is that people are trying to make a plugin to work for the XFace skin i don't see how this is not realated to the skin.

And its not just any plugin. Its probably the most famous plugin of Media portal at the moment, so making the plugin xml compatible with xface it will be a big step for xface imo.

Some issues and suggestions

Hi Harley. First off - this skin is brilliant. IMHO, it should become the MediaPortal default skin when it's ready.

I've been using it for a few days and listed my observations. I expect some have already been raised and addressed, so apologies for any repetition. I'm using 0.2.3.0 RC2 with no SVNs. My screen is 1440x900, but I've added margins to make it 16x9. However, I think some overlapping problems are caused by the resizing to fit my screen, so you can probably ignore them. I use an MCE remote for everything - no mouse, no keyboard.

I've had a go at creating a skin, so I'm aware of the immense amount of work involved in applying changes to every possible screen. You've done a fantastic job!

Here are my comments. Hope they help. I don't need you to respond - just use the ones that help and ignore the rest.

• I like the overall style, the clarity, the bar at the top, the screen proportions.
• I love the disappearing buttons. Makes a lot of sense to not have them there until they are needed.

General

• I find the highlighting showing which button or line in a list is selected is not very clear. Can you make it stand out more?
• I don't think the clock icon next to the date/time display is necessary and find it a litle distracting.
• The CD box you use to display the album cover images doesn't appear to be correctly proportioned. The left-hand side of the cover image is lost under the hinge area.
• When navigating big icons, the highlighting makes the text almost disappear.
• The input line of the "keyboard" used for Search, etc. overlaps the top row of buttons.

My Music

• I find the dummy graphic equaliser display very distracting primarily because it moves.
• When I select a track to play, the TV image appears showing the album cover. This looks odd to me. Should it be a CD case?
• In Now Playing, the track number overlaps the stars at the bottom if track is 10 or greater. (This is the same in Blue2wide. I think it's a 1440x900 resizing issue)
• In Now Playing, the text under the cover art touches the left edge of the reflection. i suggest a small gap would look better.
• In Now Playing, the picture displayed is always square, even if the image should be rectangular. (This is the same in Blue2wide.)
• I couldn't find "album" layout - i.e. "list with big icons".
• In some cases, when I select big icons, when the buttons slide away, I don't have focus on the icons so I can't select anything.

My TV

• In the My TV home screen, I think the progress bar would look better if the start of the indicator bar was moved a little to the right, so the rounded end of the bar appeared to be concentric with the rounded end of the container. (The progress bar in Now Playing looks right in comparison.)
• When changing channel by entering a channel number, the background on the popup bar is missing.
• On the popup that appears at the bottom when a channel is changed, the progress bar can overlap the channel name. (E.g., in the UK on the channel BBC News 24. I think it's a 1440x900 resizing issue.)

Recorded TV

• The still-frame thumbnail displayed along the bottom for the currently playing recorded program is square rather than 4:3 or 16:9.

Settings

• In Settings > My Music, the buttons are not wide enough for the text.
