I have exactly the same problem. Went from RC1 to RC2 and browsing video/music/picture folders had been slow as hell. Also noticed that RC2 uses way more memory than RC1, the page file usage skyrocketed after a couple of minutes.

Here's the stranger thing: after painfullly browsing most of my folders, and a lot of harddrive thrashing during the browsing, suddenly MP became as speedy as RC1 again. Although the memory usage was like 4 times higher. Quitting MP en restarting it again presented me with the same agonizing slowness as before (I thought maybe it was some kind of database/cache update thingy, but alas). I suspect there's some kind of memory leak. All my content is stored on network folders, maybe something in the network code?

For now I'll stick with RC1.

    Hi,
As long as none attach logs to they're post, we can't see where the lag is. Here MP it's fast as always, even with network drives, so something has to be different in our setup.....

    Hi,
You have lots of errors in your log(seems like all your database files it's corrupt), you should first try without any 3'rd party plugins installed.
If that doesn't help try a fresh install, that means rename MP folder so you don't loose old settings & run re-install from windows add/remove programs, then install latest SVN & configure MP after that.

    Regards
    Roy

Sorry for the delay, but here are my logs too. Set to debug. And @ generator: fortunately I also found a fix.

Browsing through the "MediaPortal.log" I encountered a LOT of "2007-09-15 19:53:44.587336 [Info.][MPMain]: dbs:close:" entries. So I figure it's some kind of database problem. I updated/rescanned my movies and music database, but still the horrible lag. Then tried this: renamed the "database\FolderDatabase3.db3" (while MediaPortal was closed) et voila... MediaPortal is speedy again as ever the next start (and ever so). Seemed somehow this file was corrupt and/or heavily oversized. MediaPortal created a fresh "FolderDatabase3.db3" which was way smaller than the older one, 16 kb versus 765 kb.

I hope this fix will also work for you generator ;)

Wow that sounds great! I can't wait to try it (have to wait till monday)

I'm pretty sure this fix works for me too, i got the same dbs:close: entries. I'll let you know.

    thx!
