Information on the problem. I installed 1.36 on a reinstalled Windows 11 Pro (current maintenance) using a reinitialized SSD drive. The same problem happens using 1.36 first. Any ideas how to install 1.36 without installing 1.33 before. It does not appear any changes to 1.36 are in this area. Ideal installation would be an installation where you an install the MariaDB and not have MySQL in the picture.

Thanks

According to this post, the pre-initialised password has the wrong mixture of upper and lower case.
    Try Mediaportal instead of MediaPortal.

I am still using MP 1.33 (on Windows 7  ), so I don't know whether the above is true. o_O

    Successful upgrade to 1.36 x64 from 1.35 x64. (MySQL)
    Using TVServerKodi and XmlTv Plugins.
    Also using MPExtended x64 7.13 / MPTvScheduler.

Earlier, I had to install 1.33 (MySQL) and then upgraded to 1.35.

    All is good, Thank you.

    Hi all
Can't get a working Media Portal with fresh install of 1.36 due to this problem
Where can I get a copy of 1.35 (so I can upgrade)?

Can't get a working Media Portal with fresh install of 1.36 due to this problem
Well, this is very strange. I have just performed a true first-time install of MP 1.36 64-bit on Windows 10 64-bit, with all Windows maintenance applied (up to 2024-12-11). MP 1.36 installed without problem  :). This is the pre-install summary:

    pre-install_summary.jpg

MP was installed on a laptop which does not have access to a TV tuner. However, I chose to install TV Server anyway. "TV Server Config" started OK, but without a TV tuner I could not test TV reception. "MP Config" also started OK, and I subsequently started the MP client and visited several panels. So in summary it looks to be a working installation.

I have a USB TV tuner somewhere, so I will see if I can find that and connect it to my loft aerial and check TV reception.

I said above that this was a true first-time install. By that I mean that this was an empty Windows 10 partition that had never had any applications or tools installed, and especially had never had MP installed (or any other media centre software).

A simulated first-time install would be to run the MP uninstaller, the MySQL uninstaller, the MariaDB uninstaller, reboot, manually delete all remaining folders that have "MediaPortal", "MySQL", or "MariaDB" anywhere in the name, reboot, and finally run the MP installer.

Is there a difference between a true first-time install and a simulated first-time install? Well, registry variables are not deleted, so that might be significant. However, I don't know where we go from here to identify the installation problem that some users are experiencing.

I've tried doing exactly this many times, with no success. I haven't (yet) tried wading through the registry however.

FWIW MP2 installs without any problems.

Some further points that I should have mentioned earlier:

    (1) I always install using Run as Administrator. I usually open an Administrator command window and invoke the MP installer from the command line, but you could instead use Windows Explorer and right-click the MP installer and then select "Run as Administrator". Does running as administrator make a difference? I don't know, but it won't do any harm and it might do some good.

    (2) As I installed into an empty Windows 10 partition, there were no additional firewalls, anti-virus, or anti-malware programs installed; I use only the default programs included in Windows 10. The MP installer changes the firewall settings to allow communication between the MP client and TV Server. This works for the Windows firewall, but perhaps there are some third-party firewall/anti-malware products that don't accept these changes from the MP installer. If you have any of these third-party products, disable them completely before running the MP installer (but remember that you still need to have the internet accessed whilst running the installer  ; installing without the internet does not work).

    (3) During the install and on the first start of "TV Server Config" and/or "MP Config", a firewall panel appears asking if you want to allow access. Look carefully at this, and make sure that "Allow access to public networks" is deselected; Windows pre-selects this by default, but this is likely to impose more-restrictive firewall rules that may prevent the MP client being able to communicate with TV Server.

    (4) My test install was for the MP client and TV Server on the same system. I have not used a setup where the MP client and TV Server are on a different systems, so I don't know whether problems exist with that arrangement. :(

    Hi @CyberSimian et al.

No success after efforts over last 4-5 days.

Total factory re-set (Win 10) followed by an upgrade to Win 11. Effectively new machine. New MP download inc' all latest deploy files.
Same errors / brick wall 'fails at SQL test'
At a loss. Will post any findings if they surface.

I am sorry that you are having no success performing a first-time install of MP 1.36 on Windows 10/11. :(
I am not a member of the development team, and know nothing about the intricacies of SQL and its various implementations.

If you simply want to get a working MP1 installation, I would suggest that you proceed via the route of performing a first-time install of MP 1.33, and then performing an upgrade install from MP 1.33 to MP 1.36 (you don't need to install 1.34 or 1.35). I did a first-time install of MP 1.33 on Windows 7 recently, and that did work. I have no reason to suppose that installing MP 1.33 on Windows 10/11 will fail.

Note that installing MP 1.33 means that you will end up using MySQL and not MariaDB. I would point out that (as far as I know) MySQL has no problems that MP exposes, and so the advantage of using MariaDB in place of MySQL is (in my view) marginal.

Solving the install problem will require the attention of the development team. @ajs @Pablik ?
